eyeballed, thought the upr catch cans was 12oz capacity but I just looked it up and its only 8oz, catch can was under half way full so that only 3-4 oz that was about after 4800 miles, still the slight smoke on start ups
Does the car get parked on an incline or on a flat spot?

I didn’t add this the other day but on start up the ECU dumps fuel to get the cats up to temp quickly. This creates fuel smoke.

Most refer to this a cold start (sound) but it’s incomplete fuel burn to “fire up” the cats. They are actually burning some fuel in the header to get heat into the cats quickly since the majority of bad emissions come from start up.

hmm could be excess fuel I would think that would be more blackish, ill have to try and catch it on video or have someone else start the car while I try and get a better smell of the smoke. That would coincide with the fact that it only smokes when cold

Clean the inner tailpipes with a cloth of some kind, and make sure the cloth wipes clean before you are done. Just an inch or so deep is all she needs. You are doing this so you can clean it again. Then warm it up, and rev it. Depends on how you drive the car as to how you should rev, but I agree on 3k first, but then burst to 5k, let it settle for a second and rev to 6. Let things cool down and wipe the same part of the inner tailpipes. You should be able to see and smell what the problem is if there is a problem. Truth in the towel.

Generally speaking, a puff of blue on cold startup is usually valve seals or guides. If I had to guess, I'd say seal(s).

It could be mostly a rich start-up. You're in CA, so I'm assuming the weather isn't very cold there this time of year. If the car sits ~2 hours does it do it while the engine is still a bit warm? If the valve seals are bad, they would probably leak enough past to make some smoke on startup ~2 hours later. If it doesn't smoke 2 hours later then it might be more of a rich stone cold start-up thing.

Dude take it to Ford and get it documented on your powertrain warranty.. That is what you paid for!
Let us know what they say.

Its been in there twice already for the engine knock/tick and the transmission issues and they don't do jack shit, let alone document it. The dealers around here are all assholes, they will laugh me out of there when I come in saying here my car smokes on cold start, they will say we can't replicate or find the issue goodbye.... not worth wasting my time till I can find the actual problem or have solid evidence.

Rant over LOL
