I'm on the 3rd front windshield. :curse: I also got a chip on my driver side window. Never in my life have I ever gotten a chip on a side window. My questions to you is can it be fixed, or do I have to get a new driver's window? The chip is visible but isn't really deep. Recommendations?

Thank YOU!

Yeah it really depends on the chip, hard to tell without seeing it. As long as there is no webbing or cracks spreading out, and it’s a fairly small chip, you should be able to fill it with one of the glass repair kits from Walmart or an auto parts store. I know people have had success with those, and it pretty much completely hides the damage and prevents it from getting any worse. I’d try that before replacing it.

We got a chip in our windshield from a rock, the 4th or 5th day we had our M1 in Colorado. We were on our delivery trip from Grange Motors to Nor Cal, and had it repaired at Safelite in Utah a couple days later. Luckily 6 months and 7k miles later the repair is still holding up fine. You can see where it is/was but you can't feel it.

I wonder if they used a thinner glass for weight savings/ being cheap? My car has less than 5k miles and two significant rock chips/cracks. I am very careful about where/what I drive behind as well. For comparison, my Rover has over 100k miles, many across the Sierras in winter being beat by road sand and not a single chip.

I think the glass is much thinner to save weight/cost. Both rocks were very small which took out the front windshield. Both times the chip ran as soon as it saw the sun.

I think I'll try and Walmart kit and see what happens. It is very small and has zero cracking/running on the side glass. Thanks for the recommendation on the patch kit.

I've had really good success with this kit from Amazon. I've used it 4 times now. Recently caught a large bullseye with small cracks on the wife's Cayenne. Can barely see it now after using the kit. I have zero deductible glass coverage but I'd rather not have the hassle of replacement unless totally necessary. Cayenne windshield OEM is like 4k....

A professional window replacement shop can fill in the chip if it's not too deep. That's usually pretty cheap... I've had that done on the front windshield of my F150 , as well as other cars in the past with great results.

Until I read the other posts here, I hadnt even considered trying a DIY kit. Learned something new!

So far no rock chips on the glass for me (fingers crossed) .... but my hood is another story entirely.

Safelight refused to even look at the side glass chip no matter how big. It is much bigger than pencil lead.

I can echo that, this kit works great.
