I swear that people in the Dallas area get more idiotic by the day. This time of year is worse for some reason too. Had a guy tailgating me at 75 mph so close I couldn’t see his headlights. With people like that I do not brake check. I let off the gas a little and lose 5 mph. If they don’t go around I start slowing down more and more, and eventually the moron will go around me when they get tired of it. It’s a safety measure in my book because if I have make a quick slowdown up ahead due to traffic, they would surely hit me when following that close. I can slow down more gradually if at a slower speed. Rednecks with their lifted 4x4s seem to be the most dense individuals I encounter.

The experience sounds pretty scary. I know well that adrenaline feeling that you want to not give into.

I probably sound like a broken record or maybe cynical, but these are why I ALWAYS recommend dash cams, better yet dual ones.
I'm sorry I just don't trust b*tches on the road anymore. Atlanta is still the worst I've ever been through, but even back home in Europe what used to be respectful driving experience requires Defensive Driving 3.0 with monthly fuken upgrades. People be stooopid both sides of the pond.

Hello; A few decades ago, when I lived in Harlan County KY. I was driving north on US 25 E one night. I had stopped at the turn onto US Hwy 119. The light was a solid red arrow for the right turn. It was my understanding that meant I must wait for the light to turn green. No right turn on red. A pickup was behind me who began to honk for me to move on. I waited for the green and then turned right. All across the bridge over the Cumberland River and for nearly a mile the guy was right on my bumper. Close to touching my back bumper with his bright lights on. I maintained the speed limit. I managed to diffuse the situation.
How else would he notify you of his inferior peen size?
Good grief have some respect for under-endowed truck people ya asshole.

/sarcasm (I hope to God that was obvious)

Yup i hate tailgaters also. I was thinking of buying a new Mustang GT but.... it looks like it wasn't able to get out of the way of a Ford Focus so i think I'll pass. "I slam on my gas to get over and let the guy pass me. As soon as they do that, they both slam on their gas too and now we’re all going 70-75 in a 40 and I’m still boxed in. " One of the cars being a Ford Focus.

Sounds like a robbery setup the way they boxed you in. Got to be careful because there are alot of crazy people. I'd say be more defensive and read the situation then act accordingly.

It's hilarious to watch someone weaving in and out of heavy traffic trying to get ahead, while I'm just driving along at a constant speed, only for them to end up right next to me later. I've wanted to roll my window down and say, "sup?"

After a pretty terrible encounter a couple years back I no longer engage with other drivers. The default position is that they cannot be trusted. Whatever stupid thing they do I take as confirmation that they are interested in ruining my day. To limit the likelihood, I make every effort to deny them any stimulus.

Keep them in front of you where you can safely see what they’re up to. Take another route. No gestures. No horns. Nothing.

My first concern in that situation would be "Am I being set up for something robbery, car jacking, insurance fraud or something like that."
Driving in downtown Atlanta rush hour daily I completely understand the feeling and how difficult it can be to disconnect your emotions and turn away from situations like that. But,if you can, it really is best.
I turn on my flasher lights and slow down.that usually works.lraning out the window isn't a good idea

You need to relax dude, I'd bet those guys didn't even know they were doing anything to bother you. Some people are just bad drivers, easiest to ignore them. If a tailgater hits you from behind it's 100% their fault.
A lot of people tailgate as their way to let the car in front know they want them out of their way, but what the guy in the right lane did doesn't sound like normal driving. OP wanted to move over to let the tailgater by, but the Cadillac maintained the exact speed to keep him boxed in. Highly doubtful he wasn't aware of what he was doing.

The one I really hate is I'm basically alone on the freeway. I see a car behind me getting closer. I'm in the right lane so is he. when he catches me instead of passing they tailgate me at my speed. I back off 5 mph, then another 5 and another, I once got down to 30 mph before the moron passed.

I find the same thing on 2 lanes they catch me then never want to pass. I'll even go real slow and get as far off the road as possible and they still won't pass. I've got to where I pull into driveways to get rid of the ass hats. It's not like I'm going to slow, I usually run 5 over the posted.

In this car, I find people tailing me or matching my speed MUCH more often than in any other car I've driven. Just people trying to puff out their proverbial chest, trying to show you up. There's nothing more manly than having a car faster than someone else's ;) SMH.

Most are just not actually paying attention. Takes a fairly dramatic change in speed to wake them. A few are jerks. The goal is to get where you’re going with the least drama possible.

Again, I never felt this way until I came across someone with a serious anger issue. And all that was pre-COVID, before the dramatic decline in manners and IQ became so prevalent. Be smart. Don’t provoke them. It sometimes takes much less than you’d think.

I sometimes wonder if that's adaptive cruise control, or if they are just stupid. How close can that be set to follow?

Knowing how to use a gun effectively and having a plan if you intend to pull it out are two important steps many skip (sweeping your house is stupid), so I'm not really surprised statistics aren't super favorable. I agree with others in here though, I'd prefer to have the choice to defend myself the best way I can. And I say that as a Canadian, lmao. Even Canada has some sketchy ass areas. Walk around Brampton with no gun for a while and let me know how naked you feel :cwl:
Brampton is a shithole. Like more shithole than TO. lol.
