My working career was in Downtown Chicago about 20 miles away. Thank God we bought the house walking distace from BNSF commuter train. I'd probably be dead now otherwise.

I sometimes wonder if that's adaptive cruise control, or if they are just stupid. How close can that be set to follow?
Interesting question. My experience with adaptive cruise control is with Subarus and Volvos. Both are very responsive, so they could seem to “chase”. But neither permits extremely short following distances. So (unfortunately) my guess still somewhere in the stupid/living dead space.

My daily drive is not too bad except now when I leave it is still dark which sucks.

My problem is at every light , no matter what car it is, feels the need to nail it like I am going to follow. My car is loud enough and when I nail it I know I can be heard far away. All I need is to have a cop close by and hear that. I just let them go but it is very frustrating when all you are just trying to do is get to work.

There definitely is something about driving a nice car hot car that brings out the aholes driving shitheaps. I watched a fool driving beside a c8 in an old Camry in traffic and was sure the tool was going to broadside it. C8 Guy pulled off first chance. Camry guy went for more meth. World of douchebags

I’ve been in my fair share of road rage and after the fact I regret every time it happens.
It’s just not worth it in the long run, you never know if the other car is stolen or what.
I just let the idiots go past me and get on with my day without any stress.
These are wise words. I drive a supercharged and otherwise modified 2015 GT clocked at 600 WHP that, where I live in Loveland, CO, is pretty close to the fastest thing around. I also travel for business a lot, and in terms of rental cars get everything from the pretty pathetic to (because I have high status with National) some pretty cool, high-powered vehicles. There is an obvious difference as to how other drivers treat me.

I have a Procharger decal on my rear bumper, which oughta inform anyone knowing anything about vehicles that I am not your usual Mustang - but often not so much.

People treat me differently when driving a high-powered vehicle (I am sure that I am not alone in this observation). Idiots in so-called sports cars with regularity do stupid things that almost result in them wrecking their vehicles. While most of the time, as Jimmy states, it is best to ignore the behavior of others, I admit that sometimes I cannot resist "putting them in their place." Having said that, you never know what kind of a-hole you are dealing with. I have my concealed weapon on my person and guess I am willing to live with the consequences of a confrontation that, well, really pisses me off. But that is just me. Jimmy is probably the wiser man...

I assume you have a radar detector?

Actually I don’t. I used to have them when I was younger but at this point I don’t think I really need one. I’m not racing around like I used to. Everybody’s going 85 or 90 on the highways in California anyway.

Nobody should be in the left lane unless they are traveling faster than anyone else. I don't care if someone if going 90mph in the passing lane. If I wish to travel faster than them, then please just move over. Glad you have proper driving manners :)

haha I try! :giggle:

This whole thread is a reason to drive a crapbox instead of a nice car.

People get triggered at the sight or sound of a fast car. They automatically want to troll or toy with you. I've seen it time and time again.

It's about time for me to sell my nice cars and get an old truck (the ones that don't dent just by looking at them) and maybe an old station wagon like the ones Chevy Chase drove in the National Lampoon movies!
That's why when I drive I don't look anywhere except the road ahead lol I don't look at people driving next to me. I just do my thing and if someone has a problem..well that's just too bad because I'm ignoring it. Just trying to get to my destination alive and with no issues.

My Mustang has ACC. Just yesterday, I was following someone on the highway at about 70. After a while, I realized we were both doing 50 (in a center lane), as everyone was flying by us on either side. As I passed them on the left, it was clear they were on their phone... So I felt like the stupid one for allowing my car to become part of a rolling roadblock. 🤦‍♂️

There are 4 settings for following distance. At highway speeds, I vary between setting 2 and 3, which seems to equate to about 2 to 3 seconds behind the car in front of me. Setting 1 seems too close on the highway, but I have used it in slower traffic.

In my 2020 there are only three settings I think. I agree the closest is too close (I don't want to get hit in the back by a slightly distracted driver/car with bad brakes), but it's useful for tailgating

Joking aside, no, it's not as close as described in the tailgating posts here. It is close enough for people here to get the hint and do and move over to the slower lane however. I only ever use cruise control on those stretches that have "average speed" camera traps though.

If you think getting tailgated in a car sucks, imagine being on a bike. :-/

No sense to add my identical tailgater experiences to the many posted here. Would just be more of the same. Must be that these fools are rushing home to complete their engineering or medical study homework - doubt that these fools can add one plus one.

I've said for decades that to fail a drivers test in America one has to be brain dead. The license tests amount to nothing. In Europe you have to demonstrate more skill and have basic knowledge of where some of the major components are located.

I have had a cool item that is fun to use with these tailgating fools. In the inside rear window of my Jeep Grand Cherokee and pickup I have a wide red/white (legal) strobe bar. After putting up with a fool for a while I turn them on and the person immediately backs off thinking I am an unmarked car. I actually have them as safety lights in the snow area where I live during the time I use those vehicles to plow snow.

When I moved to SFL (Broward) I was getting pissed off EVERY time I got in the car at the incredibly horrific driving here.

It’s not just “annoying”, it’a blatant disrespect of fellow drivers and disregard for safety and the law.

I’ve learned to not react, as the people that drive like this and are willing to jeopardize their own and anyone else’s safety are the same ones that will probably pull out a gun and shoot you for reacting to their stupidity.

Your country was successfully invaded soon after it was founded by a foreign adversary, the U.K., back when Canada was a part of it, and they took over your capital and burned your White House.
More recently - terribly and sadly - hate-filled terrorists took over planes in your country and destroyed some iconic buildings in your biggest city and did serious damage to the headquarters of your defence establishment, again in its capital, killing thousands, including many Canadians, in the process.
You do have a point: Canada’s ally, America, does provide Canada with military protection as part of the NATO alliance, and Canada is not pulling its own weight in that organization.
Though we, as part of NATO, did come to America’s aid and side in response to the terrible events of 9/11.
None of the above, though, has a whit to do with a bunch of atheist, slave-owning intellectuals with dusty grey wigs deciding that their country’s constitution ought to contain a provision preserving the existence of militias armed with flintlocks, and that “right” did nothing to stop the invasions just described above.
Yeah, well there was that one day when a bunch of vandals came up from Bermuda and stole some stuff and lit other stuff on fire. They left as quickly as they came, something like 26 hours later.

Also, terrorism does not equate to an invasion, which is basically what the Brits were when they struck Washington, likewise as were the 9-11 contingent.

So...nah.
