I was thinking of getting rid of the resonator, and adding an H-pipe, or may an X-pipe. For 2 reasons. More low end torque, and lower weight.

That said, is there a way to decrease the sound of the exhaust to make it similar to the stock sound without the resonator?

One thought I had, would be to wrap the length of the exhaust from cats back with thermal wrap to dampen vibration, and possibly lower the noise.

But, does thermal wrap also lower the volume of the exhaust?

Has anyone tried this?

Your best bet would be replace the stock resonator with lighter aftermarket ones. An h or x pipe alone will be noticeably louder. Besides attempting to dampen the noise, does thermal wrap from the cats back do much? If anything I imagine it may affect the steel.

For me, I may be the only one, my vert is not louder with the H pipe. It may be louder out behind the car, but in it it’s not enough to notice a difference. After I had it installed I was let down with all the hype it was louder. At times, it’s actually quieter in the car because there’s no resonator directly under you.

I have no idea if a coupe sounds different than the verts do. This is also with ‘16 OE mufflers.

I put on h pipe and I think it’s perfect with stock mufflers. Just the right sound and quiet when cruising. If I step on it she sounds great out the back. Best inexpensive mod out there IMO.
