If you think that there's performance to be had with an H or X you're extremely gullible and just plain ill informed. Sound yes. Performance. Not at all. Certainly nothing you're going to feel and you'd need $$$ a chassis dyno to measure it.

I went through a couple exhausts on my 03 Cobra. The first setup was borla stingers with a dr gas x-pipe. That was too loud, so I swapped the borlas for magnaflows to quiet it down. Before I sold the car, I ran my best time at a 1/4 mile drag strip with the stock h-pipe and the magnaflow. The clutch type made a much bigger difference in my drag times than the 20 or so HP lost by going back to the stock h-pipe. The welded up pipes just leave me wondering what I would do if I decided to change.

I bought my used 2015 GT mustang a year ago with 30,000 miles on it. The previous owner had the resonator deleted. The shop that did the work simply cut it out and welded straight pipes in its place. There is no crossover.

Is this a common cheap way to delete the resonator? I'm not familiar enough with the S550 exhaust to know what would be involved if I tried to put in an x-pipe (if there is any gain to be had from a crossover). The best I can tell, the bolted flange for one side of the exhaust was lost in the delete, which sucks.

I'll try to post pictures of the state that it is in. Lots of folks tell me it sounds good, and it doesn't bother me. I'm curious if I'm losing some top end or low end due to the lack of crossover. I'm considering a tune to reduce the torque management some, and I want to figure out the exhaust before I move forward.

My ultimate goal for the car is a positive displacement blower just for fun on the street. I don't plan to do more than a test and tune at a drag strip a few times, and it will never see any type of road track. It's going to be a 20 something mpg highway machine for my weekend trips.
My first setup, I had an electric cutout which is essentially a no muffler/no crossover setup. After a month, I went with a slightly different setup. I removed the electric cutouts and went with a H-Pipe, no muffler setup with the back mufflers were replaced with tips.

With regards to sound, no question the H-Pipe made a dramatic improvement to the sound. The no crossover setup doesn't necessarily sound bad, but it's just loud without any tone. You can hear it in the video. The H-Pipe cleaned up the sound a lot.

With power, having a crossover does have a positive benefit off the line with low-end torque. Not a major difference, but you'll notice your vehicle gets through the lower RPMs a little quicker.

Having an X-Pipe or H-Pipe installed on your vehicle would be a simple affair. Most shops would charge $50-$80 to have it done.

I have stock everything except I installed an H-pipe and while it isn't loud the noise is absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!! For $130 I can't say enough good things.

Just adding a picture of a cut open Mustang GT resonator for future reference here. Picture is from username ACES550. I assume the wall between the compartment has holes corresponding to item 314 in patent diagram on Synyster’s pic
