If there is a critical issue identified - and they are recommending an engine replacement under warranty, then let them do it. It would be a new engine and still be under all existing warranties.

I get the OP's perceptions.

None of what the dealership is saying makes any sort of sense. It sounds like they're lying through their teeth. Therefore, the OP has lost all faith in them.

I'd take the car to another dealership.

I would suggest letting the dealer fix what needs fixing under your warranty and see how it goes. If good, you can mow trust for future, if bad, you make the effort to use a dealer a bit further away . Ask your service writer when to expect the car to be back in your hands.

I get what you're saying. I know others are saying you're getting a free engine with 0 miles if they replace it, but will the dealer actually install it correctly and not make things a living hell? I've heard stories about dealerships replacing things only to mess things up more. Even simple oil changes and over filling. Heck, when I had my Ford Performance Calibration pack put on just to keep my warranty they put my throttle body adapter on upside down! Even with printed instructions that came with it and pictures they couldn't do it right. It's the easiest thing to install and they couldnt. So I'd be leary of just having things replaced if not needed too.
The past can be an indicator of the future.

What the tech tells the service writer, and what the service writer tells the customer are often two very different things. I suspect the reason they want to replace the engine is because of the grinding sound that OP has observed.

Are you pleased with the results from the FPCalibration? I'm thinking about going this route to retain my warranty and would appreciate any feedback.

It's OK. It does give a little more torque and better throttle response over stock, but it's nothing dramatic. Some say they see smoother shifts with the autos. I don't see any difference there. Is it worth the $1,000+ price plus install? Imo, no.

Thanks. It's a lot of hard earned. Maybe I'll do the Axle-Back exhaust with polished tips instead, lol.

Can't go wrong with an exhaust. I agree with him, the Ford calibration shines for manual cars for the drive ability improvement, but for auto guys its meh. The fitment of the provided intake is also frankly terrible.

I can appreciate the difficulty of finding a dealer close by you can trust. My nearest other option is 60 miles away.

Curious...if you've started a warranty process with this current Ford dealer, are you now tied to him? What happens if you take possession of the car and take it to another Ford dealer, to start over? Will the receiving dealer accept it?

Is the current dealer providing you the feedback you deserve? Giving you details and the like? If not, that might be an avenue you could pursue with Ford, to start over at another site?

Please let us know how things work out.

Update to the situation of the car:

On Wednesday, I called another dealer (Walnut Creek) and I made an appointment for next week to take the car there. They told me that they would be able to tell me what is going on with the car in at most 1 day or 2, and that after that they would be able to start with the repairs

At the same time, I called my dealer (Serramonte Ford) saying that the lack of communication and of a rental car was unacceptable, and that I was going to pick up the car on Friday: the car has been there for more than 2 weeks, with no updates on what is going on with the car or what is going to happen next. I shared my intention of taking it to another dealer, and asked them that, if the car was "undrivable", I wanted to have it on writing to avoid liability issues for the warranty

Today Serramonte called me and told me not to go tomorrow and pick up the car, because it can't be driven. I said that I had given them 2 days to have it ready to be driven (not fixed), and they told me that unfortunately they can't let me pick it up. At least they mentioned that it is a timing related issue, but that was pretty much it

Situation is becoming really frustrating. At least now I have a rental, but not knowing what is going on is driving me nuts. I know that the warranty will cover, but lack of transparency and respect is so frustrating

BTW, I found a YouTube video of the grinding noise that the car has:

Mine made same noise...slightly worse though. it took 4.5 months to get it back... new engine. put 200miles on and no issues so far.
If you havent open a ticket w/Ford and get them involved. it cant hurt. UNLESS u modded it... then forget what i said. GL :)
