The head of the torx bolt that holds in the gurnee flap is stripped out. The rest are perfectly fine, just wondering how to go about removing this one so I can replace it. Threads inside wing are fine as well. Any ideas?

Use a drill & easy out, a lightweight fastener like that will back out easily

Ez out FTW.

TBH, I’ve never seen anyone strip a torx before. I’m sure it happens but dang.

I’m an idiot and instead of going hand tight I went by the torque specs in the manual and it happened while using my torq wrench :/

Personally, I'd use a reverse drill bit. As it bites in, it might spin it out before you would need to use an ez-out.

PS - it is a Gurney flap named after the late great Dan Gurney.
Agreed. And even if it doesn't back out with the reverse drill it will still leave a hole for the ez out.

Another, slightly riskier, option would be to cut a slot with a dremel and try a flat head screwdriver.

Don't know how much room you have on the outside of the bolt to work with, but maybe clamping it from the outside with - pliers or vise grips, you're not going to reuse it.

Foot Pounds instead of inch pounds??? What do they call for? Like 15-18 in. lbs.? That ain't much more than finger tight.

Surprisingly it calls for 49 in. Lbs so I had my torque wrench to 4 ft. Lbs.

Ouch! Lesson learned, but at least it is in a place that is easy to get at, that's a plus. Torque wrenches, have their place, no drought.

Guess I am surprised that there was even a suggested setting & ft lbs & not in lbs, a bigger surprise.

That's a problem with engineers overkill too many specs, lacking common sense......

Best of luck with the fix, you will get-er-done just fine.

Excuse for an "element wing" install....?

J/k

1 of these solutions offered above should/hopefully work out for you.

If the solutions above don’t work, Dremel a slot in it and us a flathead.

At any rate I am a big fan of masking the area off to protect it.
