Never installed an aftermarket shift light into a factory s550 harness arrangement, so I cannot advise you on that.
Holley (owns Racepak now) started using/invented there own Canbus language, as I understand it. Racepak uses there own as well.

Clearly the Torsten/Gleason is a favorite of FoMoCo, & they do work well.
We have had good luck with the Detroit/Eaton TruTeac as well. They are not identical, but similar.
We did quite a few in regular 8.8" solid axle rears, & the TruTrac's held up very well, even when drag raced w/FI...

They produce a 50%/50% torque bias, per axle, when engaged.
TracLocs are barely 60%/40% at best.
As the clutch plates wear, that bias diminishes.

Squeaky wheel get the oil on longblock replacements, from Ford. Bk order wise.
It's who you squeak to that mattered for our circumstances.

I don't think your crazy. I believe daily driven cars are more battle tested, & a better indicator for speculation of the future repair needs. That's just our opinion, & has no merit.
