I have had the Redline quick lift hood struts on my car for 3 years and a couple of weeks ago I noticed they were no longer lifting the hood. I had to push the hood up to open. I also noticed the driver side strut was leaking oil ( strange because they are suppose to be gas struts) , which probably is why the hood is not opening. The struts are suppose to have a 4 year warranty .

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a better hood strut I can replace these with?

I contacted Redline Tuning 2 weeks ago, leaving a message and no response. I left them an email 3 days ago and no response. I guess they are not going to honor the warranty.

Update: I heard back from Redline and they are sending me 2 new struts. For those of you that may have a strut failure in the future , send an email to: [email protected] with your purchase receipt and a picture of the strut. If the failure occurred before the 4 yr warranty is up they will send you new struts.

Lift struts never last forever
If you know the stroke ( which is the length of the outer part) and the psi pressure, you can just order by that
For example the ford racing are 13/55
Meaning 13” long and 55 psi

I'm approaching 3yrs with mine and so far, so good. Sounds like a seal failed on yours and it lost its charge. There's a little oil inside to keep it lubicated.

3 years with mine as well and so far so good. I’m not opening the hood a ton so I’m hoping to get decent life out of them, but also realize they will eventually wear out. I still have the factory prop rod attached when they do go out.

I’ve had my Redlines for 2-3 years, still ok. I lay my car up in the winter and I wonder if it would be easier on the strut with the hood up as the gas isn't compressed as much.
thoughts?

I've had mine for 6yrs with zero issues, I even put on a Cervini Ram Air hood that weighs twice as much as factory hood a year ago. They still hold up fine, when they start to fail, I'll just buy another set of them- I'm impressed with quality.

Obviously lift struts holding power, because they are compressed gas, is much greater in high temperature than in cold temperature

That’s good to know, I’ve seen some aftermarket hood brands recommend not using hood struts with their fiberglass hoods due to the weight. I’m still contemplating doing the Shelby Hertz hood on my car and have wondered if my Redline struts would hold the heavier hood.

I did quite a bit of research and found the Roush ones were the best fit for me. Much sturdier brackets (2 mounting points, bolts on both ends), and they lift the hood more aggressively than any other I have seen in the wild.

I have had the Ford Performance struts since just after I bought the car in 2017, still work fine.

Granted I don't open and close the hood a lot. But I've had no troubles with them.

I installed the Roush hood struts back in May of 2022 and they are still working fine, I have a Cervini GT500 hood which is a little heavier than the stock hood and the Roush struts are still working fine. I think the Roush hood struts are the most robust design out there.

I sold my 2019 GT in December. I installed the Redline hood struts in the summer of 2020, so they were 5.5 years old and still working well.
