Installed the hood struts I had gotten for a deal from a member on here a few months back and everything snapped into place, and the clips were secured.

Turned around for like 2 minutes and heard a pop and luckily still had the prop rod up. Unfortunately I need touch up paint 🙃

anyone ever have this happen?

I have Redline struts, never had them pop off. Is it possible the c-clip wasn't pushed in all the way prior to installation or the socket wasn't completely pushed onto the ball stud?

(from install instructions)
How To Remove Struts:
Slide a small flat blade screw driver under the metal c-clip. Lift and rotate c-clip (DO NOT REMOVE C-CLIP). Gas spring will pop off of ball-stud.
Press c-clip back into position and the gas spring is ready to reinstall.

Nope, I heard the audible pop and the clips were secured prior to. I’ve installed these at least 3 different times on previous mustangs and never had an issue.

Were they used? Wondering if previous owner didn't pull back the c-clip before uninstalling, maybe did some damage to the socket 🤷‍♂️

I honestly don’t recall but they looked brand new. Could always be a possible defect that got by. Would be par for the course for me, lol.

Hopefully it's not defective. Your fender bracket does look a bit pigeon toed which would put extra strain on the c-clip.

Mine didn't pop, but I had the same issue with the Ford struts. It started prying the c-clip open when the fender bracket twisted.

I ended up adding self tapping screws to keep the bracket straight.
