I've been wondering the same thing. It would stand to reason they will be lighter without the motors, heating/cooling.After seeing all the reviews of how good the stock premium seats are, I"m beginning to have 2nd thoughts on the Recaros.
I've sat in the older 2014 Recaro's and they feel pretty good to me, of course that could change after a 2 hour drive, and I've never had the opportunity to do that. I'm 5.10 about 178lbs (Athletic build) Hoping that comfort won't be a problem. I really like the look of the Recaro, the ability to ad harness later, if I wanted too, and without the motors and heating/cooling, they have to be lighter, right?
Anyone have any specs on weight, stock premium vs. Recaro ?
There's a difference, but I believe body shapes and sizes influence the comments. When I sat in the Recaros, I could feel a difference, but given my body type/size and intended use, I found the standard seats quite good. Plus, coming from the standard seats in my current 2010, there is a noticeable difference, so much that I found it met my needs.I'm pretty relieved after having read so much saying otherwise, I just don't see how people can say that there isn't a difference between the levels of support that these seats offer.
The 14 seats are like barstools compared to the new premium premier seats.I have Recaro seats in my GT500, and they win hands down. No one else drives it, so why do I need power. I have a 14 with premium leather (I assume it would be similar), and they are nice, but not as nice.
My wife's latest Yukon has cooled seats and I wouldn't do that again. They are stiffer than the last Yukon that only had heaters, they weigh a lot more (more of a Mustang issue I know), and ultimately they feel clammy.
Heated is nice, but I live in Texas, so that's not a big loss. I could always add a heater.
Your assessment confirms my expectation about "normal" seats—they just never seem to have sufficient stiffness and solid support and therefore become a literal pain in de arse—as well as the back—during extended driving excursions. (I can sit comfortably at my desk in a well-designed Aeron chair for hours at a time—but I can hardly last the length of an old Dick Van Dyke show before getting a sore back while on my "comfy" couch.)"...The bolstering is too soft for me. It's very squishy.../then I ultimately turned it (the cooling) off. I can safely disregard this feature for the added bolstering/stiffness for the Recaros without any kind of regret.
I am definitely getting Recaros after having had some seat time and perspective. I'm pretty relieved after having read so much saying otherwise, I just don't see how people can say that there isn't a difference between the levels of support that these seats offer."
We're of the same sentiment; I try to bring that up whenever the Recaro hot topic is discussed. There's a difference, but I believe body shapes and sizes influence the comments. It's nice we have the option.
No side airbags in all cars regardless of the seat choice. Safety before weight.I ordered Recaro but now you guys have manged to confuse me even more!
I know we lose power features and heating and cooling, but do we lose the side air bags as well?
