So, I had a '13 that had some corrosion on the hood when I traded it for a new '18. Three years later, it's back again! Corrosion starting in the exact same place, left front of the hood lip. I hoped Ford could figure out how to paint aluminum by now, but no joy. I'll see what the dealer has to say at the next oil change.

Where are you located that corrosion is such an issue? Never had a problem with it here in Tennessee.

It doesn't have anything to do with location. It's because the aluminum wasn't prepped properly before paint. There is a TSB for it on quite a few Ford models. I got the hood on my 2016 Explorer replaced.

That's just odd. My 2019 sat on the lot from 11/18 until I bought it new in 4/20, and was flawless. It was still flawless when I sold it last month. Maybe Race Red resists corrosion.

Still should be covered under warranty. But hope you have a better repair then mine. Proper repair is to replace the hood.,

I do live in a salt rich environment. I'm on a causeway with saltwater bays on both sides. A strong east wind will leave a salt film on the car, especially the windows, and I have to wash it frequently. But I'm inclined to go with the TSB theory that the hood was not prepped properly.
The corrosion appears as blisters. The paint doesn't appear broken, it's like there is something under the paint pushing it up. There are some stone chips in the hood that I've covered with touchup paint, and they are not blistering. You'd think these areas would be most vulnerable since the paint protection is compromised, but they are not. So it's off to the dealer.

When I got my hood replaced a couple years ago, there were two other Explorers in getting their hoods replaced as well. They told me they were doing lots of replacements and just a repair doesn't work.
I think it's TSB 19-2026 : Aluminum Panel Corrosion

I’ve seen a bunch of s197’s and a few s550’s with corrosion. I briefly read this thread yesterday and though to myself, I’m glad I don’t have this issue on my car. Changed the oil today and found some corrosion on the underside of the hood back by the passenger side hinge. Dammit

There is - it is aluminium oxide. Unlike rust it doesn't cause structural weakness as it is only on the surface, but it does make a mess and is difficult to 'fix' once started. Plenty of threads on here about it and the causes. Under warranty it will be a new bonnet (hood)

That will be down to electrolytic action between the aluminium hood and the steel hinge (aided by a paint defect or water ingress). Needs treating quickly if you are to save the hood.

They seem to go on the leading edge of the front wheel arch (fenders) as well as the hood. 2015-2021(current)

I don't think it is any different here to the US regarding aluminium corrosion problems.
Aluminum usually produces and leaves a white powdery trace, not rust ?

By definition aluminum cannot "rust". Rust is the oxidation of iron or steel. Aluminum can oxidize but it's not "rust" because it's not iron or steel. I don't believe anyone has specifically named oxidation in aluminum?
