BE AWARE with mirror taps. Some detectors now use 5v USB power (almost all dash cams use 5v). I ordered 12v in 5v out adapters for our cameras. Also, if you have rain sensing wipers or front collision avoidance, you'll find switched 12 volts in the sensor housing forward of the mirror (the mirror will not have a connection point).

Youtube tutorial for mustangs with forward sensors.

Search isn't helping right now with tap points on mirror pictures, but wire colors should be:
Black for 12vdc
Brown/yellow for ground
Unfortunately mine has both rain sensing wipers and collision avoidance :( So, looks like I'l have to finagle it a bit!

The Youtube tutorial is a bit long and tedious, but gives you the exact points in the housing to get 12v.

That’s cute, way to further the conversation. I’m glad you posted that since the first letter in LASER is “light” and not “radio” Hence the difference between RADAR and LIDAR. Thanks for playing.
Read that last word one last time, SLOWLY

I keep forgetting to snap a picture of my setup. It's nothing complex. Accessing the power in the mirror housing is easy to do. The worst part is feeling like you're going to break the housing around the copilot camera while trying to get it down.

I can read it 100 times, doesn’t change the fact of my post that radar and Lidar are not the same thing and you’re arguing semantics to prove what? That they’re both radiation? Whoopdie do, still doesn’t change who has governing authority over them. Again, thanks for playing.

Look I don't want this thread to turn into anything crazy but Lasers Jammers are controlled by the FDA. Radar Jammers are controlled by the FCC.

I don't think we need to get in an argument about how they work, because at the end of the day who cares, lol. But to anyone who compares a radio wave to a laser (typically ultraviolet) wave on the electromagnetic spectrum and says they are the same thing is going to get laughed at. Sure they are similar, but accomplish very different goals and have very different effects on people and their surroundings. Hence why they are governed by different bodies.:like:
Lol leave it up to a car forum to start arguing over semantics and not the meat of the subject 🤣

I have those same systems but wasn't too hard to get both the radar detector and dash cam hooked up.

My AMG has an old 9500ci. It SCREAMS when it detects laser, cause you've only got a short time before you're nailed. Playing leap frog with a Vette in Maine, it screamed at me and I immediately let off. State patrol standing on the overpass, got in his car and drove past me and pulled the vette.

I was concerned about it also, but bought some taps and a mount from Amazon, and it went very easily. Using Uniden R8. The pics probably look confusing, but will make sense one you pop the cover off and watch the video posted earlier.

I personally run an Escort 360C which can’t be picked up by a radar detector, detector and you can use laser jammers that connect via Bluetooth. The way the jammers work is this: they set off the alarm for laser and scramble your speed, then within a couple seconds you push the button twice turns off the scramblers. It gives you just enough time to slow down and allow the LEO to then read your current speed. I have been using them for years now without issue. The local cops who always tag me and get a scrambled signal finally pulled me over to find out how I was able to do it every time. I showed them the front and rear jammers/scramblers and they a) thought they were very nicely installed and b) told me there was nothing illegal about this.

I have since moved States and no longer have the scramblers on my new car, just the detector.

So if you are concerned about a mess of wires, Escort and, I believe K40 make Bluetooth versions.

Changed from other brands to Valentine when it first came out. Terrific quality, engineering (Mike Valentine is an engineer), and overall performance. No need to make the application complex.
I’ll second the use of the Valentine One, it hasn’t let me down in over 20 years. I tapped into the fuse box in the passenger footwell with a Micro 2 tap. That’s where the controller box is zip tied in. Then I ran the power wire (looks like an old phone plug wire) up the pillar to the detector on the windshield. Then snaked another wire (another phone looking wire) behind the console, under the steering column, up to the top of the dash next to that pillar to mount the remote box that blanks out the lights of the detector and transfers control to that box. All wires are hidden and looks clean.

I’m an outside sales rep who drives a lot…it probably saves me a ticket a day (NJ) on the major highways. It does pick up the lane detection signal of some cars, but that’s not a big deal once you get used to it…you silence it with the push of a button on the remote box. I’m about to order their new detector that filters out those signals, so we’ll see how that works. Valentine stands behind their products and will also update their older detectors as new technology comes up.

They probably have one of the best apps too. I know a few folks who run a dedicated android phone to enhance their situational awareness. Too bad it doesn’t work on iPhone.
