crazy, I get laser alerts more often than I would like…most major metro areas.
do you have it high up to the top of your windshield or low near the dash? I've been wondering about if the location of it is whats causing my issues.

I have my R7 mirror mounted, and have only gotten laser alerts when there are patrols actually using laser. My Escort on the other hand will alert to laser in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around for miles.

Aside from the radar detectors, what’s the most common radar being used by today’s Policing Authority?

It's literally all over the map plus some states you will need stealth capability, while some are saturated with lazer, especially cities and photo radar.

Your best bet is Uniden R9 with full optimal lazer jammer array. Or R8 plus full IPL lazer jammer suite.

Waze is good for Ariel threats.

Radarforum.org has all the info you need for your needs and driving locations / states etc.

None of them are Police Detectors though haha.

What would be the best radar set up to 1. be hidden and as tucked away (I am thinking top of the window in between the rearview mirror and the passenger side window - I don't want it in my line of sight) and 2. wither battery powered or comes with a good wiring kit? Does anything like that exist?

You do want in line of sight to left of mirror at same level because when going fast and or music on you need instant reaction time. If you don't have music loud or top town noise like my case then right of mirror is perfect.

I had it to right of mirror same level to start but that 1-2 sec delay from alert when music pumping was too much. It's positioned so visor still works when adjusting angle vs planting it against windshield.

My R4 and Waze have saved me multiple times on highway, the only place I use it, and I don't even use highway more than 14 times a year on road trips.

Uniden R7. I only use it on road trips outside Virginia. It has 360 coverage and is extremely sensitive to K and Ka bands. It lacks sensitivity for laser band.

Uniden R8W, mirror mounted and hard wired. Go to YouTuber Vortex Radar for his suggested settings. Waza and R8W are not bullet proof but close.
