Hey everyone,

A little while ago, I posted asking for axle-back suggestions to pair with my Roush X-Pipe Res. delete. Although I initially was going to get the Roush axle-backs, I opted for the MBRP Black Series instead.

I absolutely love the exhaust note it gives the car, however, it is way too loud and droney for me. My biggest issue is the cold starts. I live in an apartment complex and have to leave decently early for work, and it is far too loud (like you could hear the car start from multiple blocks away loud). I want to be respectful towards my neighbors but also want to keep the overall note of the exhaust, just quieter. I know that there might be other exhaust set-ups that might achieve this, but since I already have the MBRPs, I would like to see if there is a fix as to not waste my money spent on them.

Would something like a Magnaflow 11386 help the cold starts and drone at all? Or is there another set-up that has worked for people?

You can go a couple different ways. MBRP has their long, flow through resonators and they work great. Magnaflow also has several nice resonator options as well.

I also have the 11386 and it was a little too quiet for me so I have that for tracks like laguna that require a low DB signature.

Currently I run a true dual exhaust with MBRP resonators and Magnaflow bullet mufflers and the
sound is nice. It's deep, rich with a decent amount of volume but not too much.

The nice thing about resonators is that it gets rid of that tin-ny tone and high rpm resonance that is on a lot of the cookie cutter exhausts. For more info hit up my youtube in my signature below. there are several videos on exhaust and I've gone through 4 of them lol.

Good luck OP.

This is a good route, you can also consider a pair of Vibrant resonators in line. Either way will bring the volume down some and clean up the tone some.

After watching your videos (exactly what I have been looking for!), I decided to try out the Magnaflow as that seems to have the best results for what I need.

Hopefully it goes well!

I'll post an update once it is on.

I'm glad it helped and let me know how it goes.

If you were in CA I would just let you try out mine and if you liked it, just keep it.

Don't some guys stick pool noodles in the exhaust for the cold start to tame the beast?

Yup! If this set-up is still loud during cold starts, I'm definitely gonna go that route. Unfortunately with the x pipe I had an issue with droning and being too loud overall.

Don't do that. Just...don't.

There's a dude that brought that up on the mustang pages on FB and they were immediately banned.

Quick update for you guys! The Magnaflow muffler was a success. Quieted down the axle-backs by a ton, but now it's at a nice level without being uber obnoxious or having a crap ton of drone. Cold starts are a bit louder than stock mufflers and an x pipe, but not bad at all. I still might use the pool noodle trick in the morning just to be on the safe side.
