Hello,

2018+ GTs have an active exhaust and selectable modes, so you can choose how noisy you want your tailpipes to be. Nice. But where does the Quiet Start feature fit in this scheme? If I schedule the Quiet Start to be on at a certain time of day, but the active exhaust is set to Normal or Sport mode, what will happen? Will the engine just start silently, but turn loud immediately after it has started? Or the other way around - if I set the exhaust to quiet mode, but the Quiet Start is not scheduled, will it start loudly and only then become silent?

Thank you.

It will start and remain in Quiet Mode until you change it manually and if Quiet Start is not programmed it will always start in Normal Mode......at least this is what mine does!!:like:

Same here, I have "My Mode" set to Sport +, Sport Steering, Sport Exhaust. However I have Quiet Start, set from 9pm thru 9am. The quiet start settings Trump (I love using that word) your other setting and the Mustang starts quietly. If you can really call it quiet, it's just quieter than normal.

I thought mine was broken because it starts loud no matter what time of day it is. Until one rainy morning I started the car and quickly flipped it into rain mode, and it got a little louder. I guess it really was doing its thing! So they probably just didn't want to take up all the space on the screen to say "Start not quite as loud as normal".

I normally tiptoe out of the neighborhood in the morning by flipping into MyMode which includes quiet exhaust. When I do that soon after starting, it gets quieter. So Quiet Start definitely doesn't move exhaust modes on my car but it helps a little.

Ford should have called it "Muffled Start". Calling it "quiet" is a bit of a stretch, but it does it well enough to be useful.

During your selected quiet start times, the car will set the AE to “quiet”, it remains in quiet until you select otherwise.
Also, if not in quiet mode, the car will only start in “normal”, regardless of what setting you were in when you last shut the car off.

I see. I was confused by the 'Start' part of its name, thinking that it might refer just to the engine sound during the start-up itself. Like, it might start in a certain mode, but then run in whatever AE mode you chose from the menu.
Now I get it.

So, without the Quiet Start scheduled, if you happened to be in Quiet or Normal when you turned off the engine the last time, then whatever mode you were in will be preserved. If, however, you were in Sport or Track, then it will default to Normal.
If you drive in Quiet mode, then toggling the Quiet Start on or off will have no effect.
Is that correct?

Does it take the schedule into consideration later on, while driving? Let's say I schedule Quiet Start from 8:00 PM onwards. If I leave the office at 7:30 PM in Normal mode and arrive home at 8:15 PM, will it switch automatically at 8:00 PM, so the last fifteen minutes of the drive will be in Quiet mode? Or do I have to be careful and switch to Quiet myself as I approach my neighborhood?

This is correct from what I have seen.

It never remembers the last setting. Each time you turn off, it defaults to Normal mode and Normal exhaust. Only in the case of quiet exhaust will it change from that. Not sure if it will auto change to quiet if the clock ticks past the designated start time or not.

From looking at the owner's manual, it says the time is when it will turn the exhaust mode to quiet so , yes, it will override whatever the current setting is as you drive, not just when you turn the car on.

This was the only complaint I have about its software - the lack of a use last settings. I just hate to keep changing the exhaust to Track mode :)!! At least on the exhaust, it should have remembered the last setting and only override with quiet as designated. Of course, there is another solution - disengage the electronic lever and leave it in track mode or whatever opening you desire. You could just add a length to the lever so that normal IS track mode

No. Unless you have Quiet Start enabled and are within the enabled time, the engine will always start in Normal, no matter what mode it was in when you shut it off.

No, it does not take the schedule into consideration while driving. The schedule is only for when it will Start in Quiet mode. If you're driving in any mode other than Quiet and enter the time when Quiet Start would be on, the engine note does not change.

Well, I just set up a My Mode for how I want everything. Start the car, two taps UP on the far right toggle, and done.

I have mine set to always start in Quiet. It stays Quiet until I change it.

Depending on how I feel, weather, etc., I'll switch to Sport+.

The other thing is that if you accelerate hard, the exhaust will open up, regardless of whether you're in Quiet Mode or not.

You can set it from say 10pm until 8am. Come home quietly, leave quietly. I do this but immediately flip it to Sport+ as soon as I am out on the street.

OK, now I understand. Thank you.
Out of curiosity, how loud was the exhaust in the 2015-2017 GTs, before the introduction of the AE? Was it like the Normal mode?
