I have a 2017 and just unpacked the whipple 2.9 kit. Reading through the instructions of the flare tool (getting the Stock Strategy ID), the instructions state to return to the car to a stock tune.

I purchased the car used (<5,000 miles). The previous Owner (cannot contact) installed the Ford Power Pack 2, which is an GT350 intake and throttle body, plus a tune.

I did not get any calibration files with the car so i cannot readily return it to "stock". Since the car has these parts, this is basically the "stock tune"

Will i run into issues when i attempt to load the whipple calibration, or will there be issues with my tune? Much of the literature says the tune is "based" on your stock calibration (maybe they mean strategy).

I dont want to start tearing into the mechanical aspects of the car to later find out i cannot load the whipple tune.

Thanks in advance

They are probably going to tell you to bring it to the dealer and have them flash it to stock.

As suggested...get it from the horses mouth....call Whipple. It's their baby you bought. :headbang:

You don't have to go to the dealer for a stock tune. As suggested call Whipple but you should be fine flashing it to the new Whipple tune. The flash changes/overrides everything previously on there. It's based off the stock tune but it's an entirely new calibration.

Yeah, check with whipple their tunes are based on the factory tune for the car, so you will probably have to figure out how to get that.

Whipple were not much help with getting my stock tune back to me even though I had sent it to them for their base tune .
It was easier to just have the dealer flash it back to stock so I could sent it to PBD

PBD will send you a stock tune if you go with them. I had a guy tune my car, messed the car up and lost my stock file. Rob sent me a new stock file and we tuned from there :)

The instructions say to return to your stock tune because it will store within the Whipple file when you load the Whipple tune. Basically if you do nothing other than install the Whipple tune, it will store the power pack tune instead. That may be totally fine with you if you ever for some reason removed the Whipple and went back to the power pack setup. Your original stock tune is no good to you unless you returned to the stock manifold, throttle body and whatever else was original.

You want the power pack stored as stock.

For anyone following this thread or reading it at a later date, i was able to work this out with Whipple:

There can be problems if you have a non-stock calibration when it comes to downloading the whipple tune using the flair tool

If Micromotive (via Whipple) doesn't have the calibration "part number" of your tune in their database, then you will get a 404 error when you attempt to download it (according to Whipple support).

Thankfully, they have added most of the Ford Performance Pack tunes (a Strategy ID with "SEMA" included) to their database and i was able to download the Whipple tune without issue.

Shoutout to Whipple for getting back to me on Christmas Eve!
