Question about pp option vs base

Ha!..I wish traction was a problem..have yet to accomplish a "mash it to the floor burnout" with my PP Gt. Even with "all" traction control off.. Awesome traction with the stock 19" rubber too. And to me the 3.73 is a perfect gear..start in 2nd, run the rpm's up then shift to 4th. Then on to 6th if getting to highway speed or to 5th if you racing..The 5.0 coyote loves to rev!. Damn fast car if you skip the extra shifts!

I've done this since day one with this car. I used to do it when driving heavy trucks.
I could give a rats ass what kind of tranny people like. It would be nice to have the option on the pp though.

Let me just put in my word here.....

I got my 2017 GT last month and I also was up in the air about the performance package.

First off, the brakes alone are worth it. What are they like $1500 if you want the OEM kit to add them to a non-PP GT? Get a nice 2nd or 3rd gear pull and give it a nice modest brake hit (not slamming them) and every time you thank yourself for pulling the performance package trigger.

Secondly, the wheel/tire combo. Having the wider wheels and tires is great. Especially with your possible want to autox here or there (same with me). Plus the PP wheels look the best out of all the oem wheels imo.

Everything else is just nice added bonuses, and sure you may at some point change them out, but who cares? I immediately bought lowering springs for mine to get rid of the negative rake from the factory and don't regret that at all. And so far as the diff, Ford sells the diffs as drop in units, so you can just get your liking then and pop it in and have the 3.73 as a back up just in case.

The relevent posts were prior to that. You did see the ones informing him about the common issues with superchargers and the MT-82/3.73, correct? One does not need to own the manual to be aware of the potential issues--we shared fairly well-known knowledge. Somewhere along the line a few hyper-defensive manual guys figured the people giving advice must have insulted their transmission. :shrug:

Yea, it's a shame we can't have an honest discussion on this board without the pissing matches, but many of the manual guys around here are very defensive about their transmission.

And auto guys always feel the need to bring up how the MT-82 is junk to justify their purchase. Lets not pretend the insults don't go both ways.

This "auto guy" pointed out that OP might have traction issues if he supercharges his 3.73's. Never even said anything about the transmission being bad or not. Let's not pretend the manual guys didn't start this argument.

OP, my 2c are that the PP is totally worth it. I like the wheels and prefer the suspension over the base items. Sure, I will probably upgrade those items in the future but not after getting plenty of use out of them beforehand. I suspect I will be satisfied with the other stuff in the package as is, although on a base car I would have liked to upgrade down the road.

I think if you add up the cost of adding everything included in the package after the fact it represents a good value.

If manual is a must, my suggestion is to get the Performance Pack because the value is hard to beat. There is much better aftermarket stuff, but that's obviously more money out of your pocket and the PP gear is real solid on its own. You'll likely want to upgrade at least your suspension if you go Base, but it is a blank canvas to start out with if you're into modding. Depends on your goals.

Wow! Can't we all just get along?? For my two cents, I also choose the PP, it is the best "bang for your buck." I had no other interest in the other "bells and whistles" that would have inflated the price of my car. Over a year later, I am very happy with my choice. My only complaint, and this is nit picking... the price to replace tires. The 19" size is costly to replace. I found it a better value in just buying another PP new take off set of wheels and tires than putting new shoes on.

In either case, I know that you will enjoy whatever choice that you make. This is a very exciting time for you!

To each their own, but I disagree. Hated the PP wheels. Hated the Pirelli tires, too. You're right about the brakes though, those PP brakes are badass -- although it's worth mentioning that the base brakes are not too shabby either. 4 piston 14" rotors? These are as good or better than the last gen's track pack brakes, if I recall correctly. Not bad for base.
