Interesting that the max torque figure for the Mustang (400) is actually higher than the 5.0 F-150 (387). Not sure much more torque can be had from the Coyote with a tune. Ford is getting higher peak torque out of the Ecoboost 3.5 V6 (420).
The Voodoo motor proves this, bringing gobs more horsepower than its Coyote cousin, but only a little bit more torque. There seems to be plenty of horsepower left in the Coyote design and its derivatives (with some work, of course), but not much torque, and very little indeed in the low-end.

That's not all bad, though. A high-revving V8 it a real hoot to drive.

The F-150 has different cams, the biggest reason for its power and torque discrepancy to the Mustang. The 3.5 EB acts like a much larger engine because of turbocharging. You're forcing twice the air into the cylinders, so it can produce tons more power and torque than its displacement, and turbo engines can get big torque at lower rpm if their turbine and compressor wheels are sized for it.

Yep. If you wants gobs of torque you either need big cubic inches, or go F.I.

True. I got over 400wtq on my stock turbo FA20 (FBO+meth). Bone stock only put down 220wtq. Turbos make huge amounts of torque but it either comes on late or falls early. Luckily with twin scroll I was making full torque right @ 3k rpm.

Yeah, consider how the 3.5EB is capable of the same torque as that of the 7 litre Chevy LS7.

About Ford's 5.0 truck motor: in addition to cam-profile lowering the rpm at peak-torque, it runs a half-point lower compression as well, to better tolerate low octane fuel and still return decent towing economy.

I'm with you and understand the EB making big torque due to the turbos. Ford appears to be able to tune the 3.5 in a fairly broad range as the F-150 makes 365/420 but the SHO makes 365/350......doubt they could adjust the TQ in the same manner with a NA engine.

So after a week of searching and haggling I ended up ordereing a base GT with PP. Pretty much ended up getting the pp for free after negotiating!
Nicely done.....+/- $3K off MSRP sounds about right. Did not realize PP price increased by $500 (or $690) with the nickel wheels.....probably already been asked and answered elsewhere, but is there anything new included with the PP or did they simply increase the price?

My dealer said it was just a price increase.

yea price went up. I noticed from 2495 to 2900
Dealer I ordered my '15 GTPP through has one PP car showing. PP is $3,190 due to the nickel finish wheels. I also notice that Guard Metallic is not available for '17. White Platinum, black roof and nickel finish wheels would be my choice based on the available configurations for '17.

Pretty much what I searched for a found, 'else I would've ordered. The base interior is very, very nice - it truly is. And great choice on the PP - it's the only way to fly if you want the most "sports car" experience off the lot. I didn't even consider a non-PP car nor did I test drive one. It was PP or nothing. The gloss black mesh wheels literally make this car - it changes the entire look of the car in my opinion. And the brakes are killer. And the 3.73 gears, while a tad short, help get the 3800 pound beast moving. The PP flat rips from a dig due to its very short first gear.

Finally - about the torque. Yep, it's a high(ish) rpm screamer and not, by any means a low rpm thumper, even with the 3.73s. But that's what makes the car a real joy to drive - the motor has a very European, long-legged feel and boy does it go above 4k rpm. It's damn fast. I generally cruise in the 3-4k rpm range for excellent part throttle response. If you lug it at 2k it's not going to impress you although it's no slouch there - it just isn't very exciting that low in the upper gears.
