Preparing for winter and/or storage?

Oil change, fuel stabilizer, and battery maintainer. Cover is optional.

Oil change to get the acids out of the crankcase, others are obvious.

Been doing it that way for 30 years and never had an issue in spring.

Oil change is not needed.
The acids would be there regardless if you run the engine or not.

The acidic content (the TAN) increases significantly with well-used oil, product of the combustion. Changing the oil before storage is a good idea to minimize the acidity. If you did it recently before it goes in for storage, I wouldn't bother, but otherwise yes.

modern tires dont develop flat spots, so dont sweat that part of it. i would just go with a battery tender and stabil..maybe fresh oil, but it's only gonna sit for a few months. i cant see much changing with regard to your oil in that small amount of time.

What I am saying is it if you live in a warm state driving it yearly vs parking it for a month, there is same amount of acidic content in the crank case. If it's really a problem, you will see cars having issues.
Engine oil has addictive to keep the acidic level low enough to not cause issues.

modern tires are highly unlikely to have long term damage due to flat spots. in most cases they'll regain their shape. you would always just move it back and forth every couple weeks.

After reading all of this, I'm very happy I live in California and don't have to go through the pain of not driving my Mustang for months. I feel for you guys!

Fuck that, I drive mine all year. 90+ deg summers and snowy winters.

Buy a set of wheels and Snow tires and drive it. I wait for the 1st snow and swap them out. These cars are pretty good in the snow. Canadians drive them in the snow, Your in Pennsylvania. Man up and just do it.

Wash it regularly in the winter when it is above 32 deg, touchless washes with undercarriage spray.

I'm not. I'm sure it will be fine. I wash the car to get rid of the salt after a good storm. None of my cars ever rust out and I usually keep them about 10 years. I have no doubt the under carriage will be fine in 15-20 years. All the computer stuff is a different story. I can't see that stuff lasting 20 years.


And ... 15-20 years from now I'll have a newer version. The 2026 Mustang will be killer. Do you keep cars for 15-20 years ?

I have an 86 Intruder and 02 Forester. Didn't buy either new but I take care of them and they last.

My plan is to keep this for decades. Plans can change but you and I are coming from two different places which is why we different on philosophy of use.
