Most here probably live at 2000 feet altitude or less, where 93 is considered premium. At higher alt., 91 is premium because less is needed where there is less oxygen IIRC. I have seen 85 and 86 octane called regular at higher alt.
But yeah, higher alt. does not cause octane to lower somehow...

I'd like to see a dyno sheet for 89 mid-grade on a stock non-tuned car vs 87 and 93. A lot of times, things like HP, TQ vs octane rating are not linear depending on the factory tune.
I'm doing a little experiment now with MPG vs octane. Car came with full tank of 87. I drove it til empty and filled with another tank of 87. Avg MPG for both tanks was 29 for 80% Hwy driving at 70. Next 2 tanks are going to be 89. So far on the first tank, it looks like MPG will be a little better at 30. Then I will do 2 tanks of 93 and see what the difference is.

My record is 36mpg for 40 minutes

There are some here for stock tuned reg vs. prem. It showed the hp difference only occured after 5000 rpm or so IIRC. It was supplied by one of the vendors.

Lots of 87 vs premium dyno charts but I want to see an 87 vs 89 vs 93 dyno. I'd like to see if the HP gains are linear or if they taper off at a certain octane rating. Ford may have tuned the car for something less than 93 just as a lot of cars are tuned to run best on 87. My Civic gains nothing from using more than 87 but I'm sure Honda could have tuned it to use 89 or 93 and gotten more power out of it. I've just never seen an 89 dyno for this car...

There is a noticeable seat of the pants difference in power between regular and premium. My car hasn't tasted anything less than 92 for the past 10K miles

Have been running she'll 91 Oct. with 0 ethanol for a month. Figured I'd trow a tank of regular to see if there was any difference. Felt like the car was driving in mud. I would bet loosing 40+hp with the fuel difference. Shifts harder.. unfortunately anyone else have this experience. Best fuel economy was onhhighway. 6.2l/100km. Wishing Wishing I had Baught the 8 though
If you want to feel like you got another 40+ HP Boost over Shell 91, try Petro 94 :)
