I worry more about people tailgating me in a situation that I have to stop hard.
and to think we used to teach that in driver's ed... And for decades before that hopefully your mom or pops dropped that nugget of truth.

I looked in my manual and it shows both active braking and the fact that it turns off in track mode.

I think this is for the 2018+ cars. The only time the 2015-17 would brake automatically was in adaptive cruise control. In my 2016 manual it just says that it pressurizes the brakes to give you quicker braking as you apply it manually.

Mines gone off about 3 times. Once when I was being a dick the other 2 made no sense to me. It hasn't even met the Meatloaf statistic of 2 out of 3 ain't bad yet :)

As mentioned, if the car is pre-2018 the systems are different.

——

I would be very careful going by what is stated on that Owner’s Manual page...

There is a key word there that was most likely agreed to by Ford’s Legal Team...

It states “MAY activate...” and “MAY help...” based on a set of parameters. It does not say “WILL”...

I would never rely on any vehicle automatically stopping by itself to prevent a crash OR “test out” when the system “MAY” activate... or not.

A sensor can fail at any time, just ask Boeing.

My bad for not realizing that the 18+ was different. Your analogy with Boeing is chilling but true. These systems are there to assist the driver, not replace them.

ha! More like some 2-bit halfwit programmer from overseas wrote the avoidance and brake activation logic, and they used Tesla's quality control regime to validate correctness. You wish it had Boeing code - it would stop 4x harder then specified and approved by both engineering and the certifying federal agency.

Sorry, for the snark. Software control systems will be the death of us all.

The analogy being - doesn’t matter if it’s a sensor on a road vehicle or one that takes to the skies - ANY sensor can fail OR might not perform AS EXPECTED.

As the other M6G member above said - the systems are designed to assist, not let the transportation object do it based solely on its design - which was designed and coded by HUMANS.... so error and failure is highly possible regardless of what the sensor is supposed to do vs what it didn’t do...

Ok being an engineer I like to know everything works on the car.no matter what I do,like accelerating rapidly to get close to a slower car,or getting close to a person turning in front if me,having a friend stand and also move as I'm driving him towards him on local street, collision just won't go off.i only have one license plate so no blockage.and have never driven in rain so sensor can't be dirty. I figure there's some set of settings that is causing it.i drive in either Normal, sport or sport+.not gonna go to dealer except maybe to get his advice on what's happening.any ideas??could it be a fuse or loose censor connection?

Yes, and probably. A dealer is not going to tell you what it could be without looking at it. It is a safety system so liability could come into play if you try and fix it with dealer supplied information. Just bring it in and have them look at it.

the sensor could be trivially mis-aimed.

Yeah your right about liability.i just hate bringing to a dealer, even a good one like Sandy Springs Ford.who is a major dealer, and has done good work for me.

I've found out, to my utter dissatisfaction, that the 2020 Mustang comes with the pre-collision alert system whether you want it or not. It's not an optional extra anymore, like it was three years ago when I got my Mondeo (to which I was stupid enough to add it).
In the Mondeo it drives me nuts. It brakes for no reason, and when it does, it does it unexpectedly and extremely violently. You can disable the automatic braking, but only temporarily - it enables itself automatically the next time you start the engine.
I won't have this crap in the Mustang. I must get rid of it one way or the other. Does anybody know if it can be disabled forever with FORScan? And if so, how?

Very investing. That's not the case here in the US. Still part of the Safe & Smart package.

Checked out Ford Romania. Unfortunately my translator is not working.

Funny I can get mine to work.

Indeed. This sentence:

Daca nu reactionezi la timp, sistemul aplica automat forta totala de franare, pentru a reduce riscul unei coliziuni frontale, sau pentru evitarea ei.
means: "If you don't react in a timely manner, the system will automatically apply the maximum braking force, to reduce the risc of a frontal collision or to avoid it".

That's exactly what it does in the Mondeo - it stops the car dead in its tracks. And when it happens for no reason it's absolutely maddening.
