Question to you all.
Have you guys noticed the mpg on the screen going down pretty fast when the car is at idle or neutral waiting in the traffic? When i take of and hit the gas it climbs up again but at idle it should be stable not going down. Thats pretty interesting. Cheers.

Haha, thanks for the reply, I am an engineer trust me i know what you mean but when the car is not moving the meter should stop at whatever the value it is prior to the previous reading. Technically you are consuming really low gas on idle. Cheers.

I assume that this is about the instantaneous mpg reading on the screen (as opposed to the average mpg reading). Then the reading should be 0 when waiting at red light. In the car I am driving now, the reading is blank (in fact it is something like __.__) at idle. Any positive number for instantaneous mpg at idle (and not moving) would make NO sense.

If we are talking about average mpg reading, then it should not change (unless the car sits at idle for long long hours).

Ohh i was talking about the average after a reset. I didn't know we have instantaneous mpg. Cause the average mpg reading affects the how many miles of fuel left to empty reading. Hmm good to know that we have the instantaneous mpg feature thanks.

MPG is not a measure of fuel burned. Idling at 500 rpms does burn less fuel than driving at 1500 rpm, but then again not having your car on at all burns even less fuel, so according to your logic your MPG should increase every time you park your car and turn it off, right? The reason your MPG is less when idling is because MPG is a measure of distance traveled per volume of fuel (just like everyone else has been saying). If you are not moving, your MPG should be less. This is not a difficult concept. As a fellow engineer, I really hope you're trolling. If not you're making us look bad.

Plus a Phd trust me u use my products i dont want to be rude but how in the world idle at 500 rpm burns more than 1500 rpm at 5th gear explain please?

Let me know when they add the gpm( gallon per minute) or gallon per second feature in there to avoid discrepancy. Apparently we do have a instantaneous mpg reading that i didnt know of so issue solved. Cheers.

The instantaneous reading is a nice feature, I like it a lot. Even if it is a little bit of an unsafe distraction. Although whether it be instantaneous or avg mpg, they're both gonna decrease at idle

CFair ask yourself this logical question. What happens to the reading of miles of fuel till empty if u run the car on idle and dont move anywhere? U think the value will go down or stay the same since u r not doing any miles with the car. My logic was says when the car is off and turned back on it should read the previous recorded reading not zero. I cant believe we r arguing over this geeez man.

If you're not idling for long, it should stay about the same, but if you are idling for a relatively significant amount of time, say enough to impact your average MPG, then the distance to empty should decrease.

The miles till empty will go down if youre not driving, because the car needs fuel to run at idle. If you turn the car off then back on yes, it should read the same number or it could be lower. Again because the car takes fuel to start up and idle.
