I have it only when cold

Edit I feel like there is a dirty joke in there but.. I got nothing
How about shrinkage is causing my piston to slap against my blocks??
(Yes, there's only one block but pluralizing it sounds dirtier..)

It appears I'm the lone "No" vote so far. Yes, I'm very aware what it is. I've had numerous people who are knowledgeable car guys look at it, mostly drag racers and hipo street car people and none of us have detected any noticeable signs of piston slap ... if it's there we aren't hearing it. Oddly enough, the only strange sound we've noticed is a light "whooshing" sound that appears to be noise from the cam chains. I'm very happy with the car, though I admit I only have about 500 miles on it so far ... everything works as designed and it has yet to use a drop of oil.
You wouldn't be able to hear your cam chains in the car unless something was broken. Of course, I'd have to hear it but your description does sound a little like piston slap.

Yes. My track pack had it (sold) and my R has it.

On my R is it still audible at the right RPM and throttle after coming up to temperature but I have to really try to get it.
My R is the same way. I want to tell myself it's set up extra loose so that it gets "just right" after a lap or two.

Mine only completely goes away after consecutive WOT blasts.

If you don't have it, you probably don't have a 5.2L FPC.

Don't have it, hope I never experience it. AND I do have a 5.2L FPC.

If you're correct it's unlike any piston slap I've heard in the past. It's not a rattle or metallic sound. It's more like the sound you make when you "hush" someone, an airy sort of sound, maybe air box noise?

The GT350 track attack cars have it... it's normal. And I heard more than one there.

I just got my car... So haven't had a chance to start it in really cold temps. However, I did start it up last night and did hear some piston slap while it was warming up.

So that's what thing is called. You just saved me from making a new thread because I was about to ask what that rattle is at 2-3k rpm until my engine is really warm. Damn.

So this is about quality control or is it just the nature of the engine?

Nature of car. Built engines with forged internals often have it
