I got these videos the last time the car was out. Just about 27k miles. Only occurs during light throttle, so it seems usual per the SSM from Ford re piston slap. Thoughts?

Yep, between 2 - 3k rpm. What was your oil temp when recording the videos? Noise should go away or be greatly reduced once up to normal operating temp.

You can see the oil temp in the second video - it's on the dash readout. 156 degrees F. That's an engine that's not quite up to temp (s/b 180+). Frankly, I couldn't hear any noises other than normal GT350 engine sounds. Mine rattles a bit when it's cold, but it goes away when the engine's hot.

That’s not “piston slap”.

I agree with @JAJ I either don't hear what you're hearing or I am just used to forged For coyote-based motors. Nothing sounded weird to me.

The rattling between 2 - 3k rpm is the piston slap and can occur when engine isn’t up to full operating temp.

OP - is the noise there between 2 - 3k rpm with light throttle after oil temp reaches at least 200?

Hey OP, I watched both videos and that is exactly the noise my GEN 1 motor had and at the exact same RPMs. I could also hear it quite evidently right after I started the car when it was cold. It DID decrease when it got warmer, but could still hear it faintly. Was most noticeable 1800 to 3300 rpm. It's a kind of metallic-ey noise.

My gen 2 motor does not make this noise FYI.

Thanks for the experience. How did you end up with a gen 2 motor? Did you bring this issue to the dealership or was it a separate issue?

Yes, not quite as loud, but I can hear it at all temps during light throttle at those RPMs

No sense in bringing the Piston Slap sound/issue to the dealer. Ford has issued several statements regarding and its normal for these engines. If its normal, why doesn't my gen 2 do it? Ha, but that is another story.

Different issue, my oil pump gear sheared apart on my gen 1.

Sounds exactly like the 2k-3k rattle I had on both of my coyotes.

Interestingly enough, my 500 has no tick or rattle anywhere at any time.

I will say this, when I replaced my primary tensioners with the GT500 ones, my 2K rattle disappeared completely. Perhaps a coincidence, as the Voodoo gets the ratcheting tensioner from the factory.

Some people seem to think that the 2K rattle on GEN3 Coyote is due to the high pressure fuel pump for the DI system coming online, which the GT350 and GT500 don't have.

just for clarity - the voodoo uses this tensioner too. it's actually from the Boss 302 engine program

Yes, that is what I was saying. Meaning that it may be concidence that when I switched to this tensioner, my rattle went away.
