Pics / tips for a-pillar tweeter install

My 2019 401a has the 9 speaker set up. With the top down and sound cranked up (not all the way) it distorts really badly.

Is that the tweeters or the mids cutting out do you think?

Anyway, I checked on crutchfields site, and see some speakers I would like to install, these: Rockford Fosgate R165-S. Which come with 6.5" speakers, and tweeters. Does anyone have some pics or tips of installing these? I am hoping there are harnesses I can buy to make it easier?

Crutchfield sales guy said I need that to use a backstrap piece (Universal Back Strap)

I don’t have any experience with that specific tweeter, but I can share what I encountered when installing Hertz 24.3 tweeters in my ‘19 Bullitt A-pillars. This specific tweeter does fit nicely in the stock location behind the factory grill, although you will need a way to secure it, as it is not a tight fit. I used 5 minute epoxy to secure the Hertz tweeter ring inside of the stock mount and let it dry for two days. When I went back to press the tweeter into the Hertz ring, the epoxy failed to hold to the stock tweeter mount and left a big mess. Long story stop, I ended up ordering a new set of A-pillar covers and tweeter rings. This time around I will snap the tweeter into its ring first and then use a hot glue gun to secure it to the stock mount, as it will be less messy and hopefully hold just fine. As for harnesses, I soldered Molex connectors to my new speaker wire to make them plug and play.

There’s also a video of a guy installing a pair of Focal tweeters in a ‘15 GT, which required the use of a Dremel to enlarge the opening, although it didn’t allow the use of the stock grill and was a friction fit.

Removed the factory midrange it sounded like garbage. Installed Hertz 2-way Mile pro MP165P.3 component set. The tweeters fit perfect after you cut the OEM tweeter out, open the hole a little larger so you have a tight fit and just press it in. I used a knife to cut the connector off the back of the OEM tweeter trimmed up the plastic and epoxies it to the back of the MP25.3 tweeter. If I were to do it again I would mount the connector so it points downward toward the dash, not upward and adjust the wire length. Had to re-install the A pillar then install the tweeter last. This worked great though and I can remove the tweeter with a trim tool without taking the A pillar off again. The A pillar is a complete bitch to re-install.

I have the speakers your talking about installed in my mustang. To mount the tweeters, i took a file and made identical indentations to the factory speakers and they popped right in like factory. I did have to cut the wires and used insulated quick connects to attach them. Overall im happy with the outcome.

Thanks! The MP25.3 sound great. Couldn't be happier with them. Flat on axis frequency response. Non fatiguing and natural sounding. These tweeters are available separately and would be an easy and relatively less expensive way to upgrade. I installed them first and used them with the factory door speakers for a couple weeks. A huge step up for the sound system.

Did you happen to get new Mids and center speaker also? I was also looking at these speakers from crutchfield (sold out now) Kicker 47KSC2704

I have 2 mustang's my base gt and the wife's premium Ecoboost. The tweeters are in my gt. On the 9 speaker car I disconnected the tweeters and the center speaker and replaced the woofer in the door with the one from the Rockford fosgate set. I replaced the mids in the door with a set of Kenwood coax. As recommended by crutchfield to blend best with the fosgate woofers. I also used forscan to remove the ridiculous eq curve Ford has programmed in. The results are outstanding.
The center speaker totally destroys the stereo separation removing it from the system drastically improves the sound quality.

I have read posts where people "cut the green wire" to kill signal to the center speaker. Is there some downsides to this? Does it affect hands free cell call ? For some reason I thought the Bluetooth hands free used the center speaker for audio.

I Just unplugged it. It doesn't affect anything other than eliminating a fake channel that destroys all separation. The phone voice goes through the front speakers.

There's no way I'd remove those damn A-pillars (ha ha), but have a question about the factory tweeters. If they can reproduce notes high enough for your liking, and you don't hear any distortion at the max volumes you listen to (15 in my case, but not often), do you really need better ones? Just curious on that. I added treble to my Spotify eq, just as an experiment, and it's way too much, so dialed it way down, to maybe 2 notches above the middle line (with the factory treble at max level), and that's as high as I like it. Maybe with better tweeters, the factory treble adjustment leads to higher highs, but maybe not. And even when listening to other sources, the max treble adjustment from the factory is good enough.

You don't have to pull the a pillars you just lean them back and unplug the tweeter. If your happy with what you have the good for you. But some people like real music not just high pitched noise.

If you don't listen to loud music and you're not super picky about clarity, the stock tweeters are OK for average listening. It's not that they sound terrible, it's that they don't sound at all in certain ranges, especially with Ford's EQ... Long story short, if you like the way they sound, don't change them. If you do upgrade them, they'll sound better.
