The V6 was actually never intended to be added to the 2015 Mustang lineup, but late in product development it was added.

It's in one of Dave Pericek's interviews on Youtube. I'll post the video if I find it again.

Yes, that was what I heard Dave say too. The 2015 was initially only going to have a V-8 or an EBoost 4. Then, in the late going, they changed their minds and decided they needed a V6 entry option possibly for cost reasons. I am sure glad they did. That may be why there are so few upgrade options for the V6. Next year's engine offerings and packages will be interesting.

Interesting. In theory that means that next year we'll likely either see a V6 with performance/premium packages, or no V6 at all...

I am still amazed at the performance the 3.7 liter v-6 has, a 2012-2014 Mustang will out perform my brother's 1996 cobra mustang that actually weighs less than the v-6 late model mustangs.

Now that was back in the mid-to late 80's through early 90's when 225 and 235 horsepower was the cats meow. Remember when they applied gearing to the 5.0 liter engine and had the engine running in it's sweet spot on every gear change.

Even from the 2.73-3.55 ratio rear end gears that were optioned from 1985 or so till the end of production. The transmission ratios stayed the same, which gave us the every HP possible to the rear wheels.

What's more impressive is to go to a dealer and buy a 2014 base model mustang with no options at all. plus stick shift Take it home a do absolutely nothing to the car but drive it. That night drive down to the hang-out and talk to the guys that do not have a clue about the speed and performance of your new mustang.

There is nothing more glorifying than to know you have a fast car and it also gets great gas mileage. And to gain respect from your pals knowing you made a big hit with everyone at the burger hang-out.

I agree. I'm looking for a daily driver, and the v6 is a great combo of looks, performance, and affordability. It's quick and it sounds pretty good too.

I hope the v6 does not go away anytime soon because I'm still not sold on the EB. Maybe that will change with time.

Now I'm curious how the resale value for the V6 if Ford does decide to phase out the V6. If by chance 2015 is the last year of the V6 then maybe might be a good idea to get one instead of the EB. Guess just really depends exactly how many V6 they sell for the 15s.

Does anyone care that Ford seems to be slowly phasing out the V6? Obvious signs are that they are not offering it in Europe, they made no changes or power increases to the 3.7L and as far as I know they didn't even show the base model at any of the reveal events. I'm sure all this points to them replacing it with the EB4 in the very near future.

Am I the only one that will miss this engine? the v6 has been with the Mustang since the beginning.... and they did such a great job with the 3.7l. Will the EB4 be a worthy replacement?
The V6 was never intended to carry over but was added as a price point vehicle. This is why it's not offered as a premium model. Short of a SVT vehicle I don't think you will ever see a 3.5EB in Mustang, one for packaging, two for cost.

Unfortunately I expect the Mustang to move up market, starting with the 2.3, quite possibly the 2.7EB, then the up market 5.2 which will likely be a premium price point model. I don't see them keeping the V8 in anything but limited numbers, i.e. no more stripped GT's. I think we'll see only high price point models with V8's by the end of the decade. CAFE will determine that. The 2.7 EB has a ton of promise and the 3.7 will be a distant memory.

What I would like to see in the 2016 Mustang is the current 3.7L V6 with DIRECT INJECTION and an all-wheel drive option like in the Taurus SHO. That would be some car! I test drove the SHO last year and it was incredible.

Wouldn't that just be a Taurus SHO

I don't think so. But, it should be only an option. Of course it might not be possible with the new IRS and front end suspension. I was just wondering.

Why the fuck would you want an AWD Mustang?
Speaking just for me, one reason is improved driveability in bad weather. Mine will be a daily driver, and I want it all: a fun sports car in the good weather, and something that reliably gets me around in the bad weather. I expect the current model is at least passable, but AWD could make it better.

I've learned from another thread that nearly every poster on M6G is an expert at driving on ice with racing slicks, but I still lose traction in the snow from time to time. AWD (with a strong RWD bias when traction is good) would be a very interesting option to me.

I think we will see a 2.7L V7 EB before the 3.5L. This engine is going to be released in the new Edge and it will make almost 350hp. I understand a lot of Euro countries are basing the tax on CO2 content, but in other asian countries like Japan it is still based on the size. A 3.0L + engine in Japan is heavily taxed and you can see it on the license plate if its over 3Ls.
