I wish Ford was offering. NA 4-cyl engine. I'm so old that I remember a time when all Mustang trim levels didn't have to be fast.

I think for europe, you are on the likely track- I'd go so far as to not be surprised if the EB 1.0 might even make it into a 'pony' version over there- power to weight wouldnt be to ridiculous by european general transportation expectations. with a 8 speed or CVT it would be a adequate setup. time will tell- but I have serious doubts of any quantities of 5.0s being sold anywhere but the middle east- heck, the last 2 months production of the crown vic/marquis ALL went to saudi arabia- rumor was some 5.0 versions did too. water costs more than gas over there...

Man I am from saudi arabia and I told a lot of people that the 5.0 made it to the crown vic and they all started a war against me . The 5.0 actually made it the the 2012 crown vics with the police package . They were actually for the ministry of interior affairs , and they ultimately sold them to the general public . I couldn't believe my eyes at first but damn it really is amazing.

I am really surprised ford hasnt flattened the v6 to 120 degrees- with a 120 crank, you would get similar bank-to bank exhaust mismatch to get a more V8 like sound, plus the benefit of reduced height for the hood- the s197 bay I
*think* would handle the extra width, dunno how tight the s550 will be...
Even if it would fit, there is always the question of inertial balances in a V6 of any bank angle. Up to about 3.0L they can be pretty smooth, above that they tend to get a bit rougher. I hope that you're aware that the 3.5L Nissan motor isn't quite as smooth as the 3.0, and that the 3.7 is rougher still (if not, I imagine that Trackaholic is). To the vast majority of prospective V6 Mustang customers, a smooth running engine has far higher priority than any attempt to mimic the V8 sound. Actually, running a 60° V6 with a MT up and down through the gears has a sweet and very satisfying sound all its own.

A 300 HP 3.7L dropped into something like an MGB would be a VERY entertaining car to drive . . . or track.

there was rumors of considering a 180 crank for the v8, as it is more balanced
More balanced in the exhaust system, yes. Not balanced inertially, I think for secondary moments, which is why over time they tend to vibrate loose everything that isn't locktited-red.

but that would turn the American V8 exhaust note into a ferrarilike V8 buzz of stereo 4 cylinders...no thanks.
I take it you aren't a fan of X-pipe exhaust systems either.

While I'm too cheap to rip the OE exhaust out of my '08 until it dies of its own accord, I'm so put off by the association of the "V8 rumble" with rudely driven outsized trucks (that you couldn't pay me enough to own and actually drive) that I may well swap over to an "X" system just so my car doesn't sound like one of those things. Actually, I've done up my own V8 "X-pipe" system before, sort of, and I absolutely would do another one.

They should phased out the v6 this year. Damn rental companies I mean I'd much rather rent an ecoboost over a v6.

My 1/2 cent....Ford will keep the V6 unless EB4 is less costly. It's a pony car which means it's an economic but sporty car and they will want entry level pricing near the average car price...maybe $25-27K tops. For 300hp that's a good deal.

I think whether Ford eliminates the n/a v6 will depend on the difference in price to the eb4 and sales numbers for the v6. When you consider that it gets about the same hp as the first high performance v8 Shelby, that's pretty impressive. Many Mustang buyers are just interested in a sporty car that is affordable, and don't care how fast the mustang can go around a track. As for the v6 not being offered in Europe as an indication that it is being phased out, that is nonsense. The taxes for engines larger than 3 liters are prohibitively expensive over there.

Just another clue that the 3.7 will be phased out is it was replaced in the F150s today.

there is a new 2.7 ecoboost with unannounced power numbers, supposed to be a replacement for a small V8, so probably mid 300s hp and torque, 330/350 or something for a guess. anyway. it is positioned as a premium engine in the trucks to the 3.7 v6 but below the 5.0. in the mustang lineup it would slot above the eco4 which is above the v6. but i think the only thing that will kills the 3.7 is if the eco4 is widely adopted in the base cars

Not sure I follow.
I think he's saying the 3.5L EB6 doesn't make a good mid level trim engine for the Mustang since it is such a capable engine it would step on the toes of the V8 which is a big no no.

I think the NA V6 is on its last stretch until the first refresh. We haven't heard a thing about it and Ford seems intentionally showing non-GT's and not saying whether it is the base or I4. Conditioning everyone to think they are the same.

If there is a change in the size of the v-6 to a smaller but much higher HP version then yes I'm all for the 3.5 eco-boost V-6, and welcome both single and twin turbocharged 3.5 liter engine combo's, if that's the future of smaller more powerful mills. Seems to be the way things are shaping up to be, When I test drove both auto and stick V-6 Mustangs off the show room floor.

I was very pleased by my ever so reliable, "butt dynamiter" that this six cylinder is not joking around. That Ford is serious about there sports car making power, The automatic was a little disappointing by the slow shifts it made through the gears. The sport mode did nothing but make the gas peddle rasp up the engine slightly sooner and the shifts were still just as slow, but with more of a lock up feel on all gear changes made with the sport mode and shift manually.
