Are you in significant (like most of the trip) stop and go traffic every day? I'd probably look at auto if true, even though I love driving stick. If you hit that kind of traffic every once in a while but mostly it's not bad, go for the stick. All that said, this one is quite easy to drive in stop and go traffic compared to previous manual cars I've had. Only you can decide if the extra fun and involvement is worth the tiny bit more work in traffic. My point was just to not let the fear of learning deter you.
3 to 5 days a week after work. Not too bad when I only work an 8 hour shift, but I work 3+ 16 hour shifts a week, and sometimes get stuck in traffic for half an hour. So I can imagine anything extra to do on those days when I am exhausted will be terrible. I will probably just end up with an auto tbh. The paddle shifters sound fun. I still enjoy manually shifting my car now with the tiptronic system, I think in the end, the ease of use in traffic for me will out weigh the extra fun of a manual.

Man. I am want it in manual. Anyone near NYC wanna come let me learn on their car? ;)

That being said, as a daily driver, wouldn't the manual get annoying in traffic, or is the new clutch that comfortable where it doesn't really matter anymore?
this car is the easiest manual ever...with creep assist and hill assist it's soooooooooooooooo easy

But wheres the rev match! I have to be ultra lazy! :p I'll see if i can find a school around here that I could get a few lessons on manual maybe. Saving 1200 on the car sounds great.

i learned pretty late in life, I was 30. had to learn to get into a 2001 540i sport 6 speed. haven't owned an auto since and ive been through 4 cars since. it's well worth learning to drive a manual.

Ahhh! I need someone to let me practice. I'm sure I can get the hang of it within half an hour at most, it's not rocket science, but at the same time, I think the auto would out perform me under hard acceleration from lack of skill.

The clutch in the S550s is so damn light that I honestly don't think it would be that bad in NYC type of traffic. I had fun when I drove my S197 with the "heavy" clutch in NYC a few times. Granted, there's no reason to drive to work everyday in NYC so it would be more of a weekend and occasional weekday thing and in that case the S550 would be fine in that traffic. Plus, a stick shift in NYC is extremely rare so +1 for uniqueness - also less likely to get stolen because so few people know how to drive stick, especially in the city

I only work in the bronx, and I live in westchester. So not really nyc levels of traffic, more just the freeway gets clogged up on my way home. Sometimes I take 40 minutes longer than usual due to traffic if theres an accident. As far as stick shifts go, I think they're rare pretty much anywhere around here and not just NYC haha.

Just get the manual GT. you won't regret it. As for learning it's super easy. People make it sound like you'll destroy the car if you don't already know. BULL SHIT!!!! My fist Manuel was a 06 gto with heads and cams. Bought it and had to get it home some how. Took maby 15 minutes in parking lot to feel comfortable to take it home. V8 are so easy to drive stick. The torque really helps. When I hade my stage 2 mazdaspeed 3 i hade to rev the nuts off it to get it to move. With a v8 just come off the clutch slow and your good to go

I am thinking about it for sure. The 1200 fewer dollars for a premium with it would be nice, or the PP replacing the auto for just a bit more makes it even more attractive. I do personally feel a mustang should be manual based on principle.

Honestly if you challenge yourself to drive in NYC or the immediately surrounding areas (Yonkers/Bronxville/Westchester) then you'll be golden with stick shift for the rest of your life.

Get the car in stick. I drive in traffic hell... and yet I find myself missing the manual anyway. The automatic is okay. I got it because my wife can't drive stick and has no desire to learn. But even so... I miss it. If you can get it in manual, you should.

This thread was supposed to help me choose between two things, and now I am torn between even more options! In the end, if I can't get anyone to let me learn on their car, I think I will just go auto. I have a while, so I am not too worried. Anyone know how long it would take for the car to show up after I order it if they don't have one set up how I want btw?

And I'll reiterate one more time. The Ecoboost is a good motor. Hell, it's a great motor. Better than the 3.7 V6. Better than the old 4.6L V8. Moddable. Fun. It's a contender if you want it to be one.

But it's not a 5.0 Coyote V8. Some folks have good reasons for not getting a GT. Their hooning days are behind them, but they still want a faster car (that gets good fuel economy too). Others, like me, simply cannot afford a new GT -- but wanted to buy new for a variety of other reasons. There are one or two folks I've met who intentionally went Ecoboost over the V8, because they are tuners and like turbo-4s.

But the vast majority of folks WILL miss not having that V8, in the end. Sit down and seriously ask yourself if you'll miss it. If the answer is no, go Ecoboost Premium and be happy with a great, fast car. If you even suspect it's a yes... buy the GT, even in base trim if you have to. The Performance Pack is awesome -- but if that's even pushing it, go 5.0, even if you have to price it with no options. A GT without the PP is still faster, and a better modding platform than an Ecoboost with PP.

Actually, I am pretty set on a GT now. I just have to drive the EB and GT to be sure. But that extra power, sound, and then it hits my bucket list for cars. I have owned an NA I4, a turbo I4, I wish to own an NA V6, NA V8, and a supercharged V8 before my life is over. So if I buy the V8, I can then possibly get a supercharged V8 knocked off in a few years if I wish! In the end, it's going to be different to me because I've drive a turbo for a few years now. That's probably the largest driving factor in my choice. But hey, maybe the 10% faster the GT is won't matter to me once I drive it. :)
