I like to disassemble things.
Done in the engine bay so I've moved down below. I started by removing the large bellypan and the filler piece between it and the splitter. For reference, you have to remove the smaller piece first in order to get the larger one off the car. Again, I only drove this car once.

Frustrating because this car sat out at the railyard for a month after sitting outside at FRAP for a month in the winter which no doubt accelerated oxidation. I'll take care of it but would rather be doing other things with the time I spend on the car. Some shots from underneath...

I spent about an hour or so so far with my favorite aluminum cleaner.

I'd love to know the relevance of writing the time on the steering rack...

I found a sticker with the engineering number for the radiator underneath and hidden by the tray. And the radiator (at the least) looks to be coming from Hanon, who I had never heard of before. https://www.hanonsystems.com/EN/Solutions/Ice

Something else I thought interesting. The horizontally mounted transmission cooler is made by C&R Racing. Lots of guys used their radiators/intercoolers on previous generation GT500's but I did not know that they are now a Tier supplier.

More to clean tomorrow and I think I'll take advantage of having the tray off and change the oil what with the ease of access.

Wow, crazy to see that much oxidation on your car. I am impressed with your attention to detail Tob, you make my level of care for my car pretty shabby lol.

I also noticed the C&R heat extractor for the DCT. I am a fan of them, and I was happy to notice that.

I saw that too when looking at the oil filter.

Tob: I suppose we can assume that the times were written on those parts post-installation, it makes no sense otherwise.

But even if we know that, it sure doesn't explain it. Perhaps some "clipboard type" was checking "productivity" by marking points in time and comparing work accomplished. I would expect this sort of thing from companies like "Der UPS" which is run like the Gestapo but, I would hope that Ford isn't quite so far along the corporate evolution chain.

(But I sure would like to have a box of those markers!) <smile>

So much for the promise that our cars wouldnt sit out in the elements for long periods. How else do you explain that kind of oxidation.

40 years from now when one has been restored after wasting away in a barn, you better have that time mark included or you lose points on the judging.

Nah, there'll be a Corona exemption.

Tob,

I'm going to have to get me some of that metal polish stuff. If you have used it a lot, does it keep the metal nice and prevent further oxidation?

I spray WD40 on a rag and swipe again the next day for protection well after cleaning. Last for quite some time and then I'll wash good and reapply some WD40. It was suggested to me by someone on the forums that has done it for years. It works well. So I can't say that this product alone mitigates future oxidation.

Do you wipe WD40 on all exposed metal surfaces? What do you do about painted surfaces like in the engine compartment?

Uncoated or untreated aluminum/steel surfaces are the first to degrade. For example, the top of the supercharger case was treated whereas the valve covers were not. Kinda sad, as this is the first modular with such a nice cover but Ford chose to install them bare and unfinished. They oxidize rapidly. Same as the oil pan and transmission case.

Painted surfaces, I just keep them as clean as can be, detailing them as necessary.

Mine sat out for a while and at the rail yard for a month. I have no oxidation at all that I can see. I think E drove his car in the winter from MO to NY. Guessing he hit a lot of road salt/chemicals along the way.
