ordering the gt350

hey guys so I have been waiting for the reveal of this car since like... forever. Now that it's official I will try to order one as soon as dealerships are allowed too. Now, my question is since I have never bought a brand new car before, what is the process like? When i order it at the dealership, do they expect a down payment then and there?

I currently am interviewing for a job that I am pretty positive that I will be able to get, but I probably won't be able to start it in 2 months which is when around the time when I believe the orders will begin to roll in. Not sure. I'm kind of hoping I'll be able to order it at the dealership, then after I go through with my first deployment I'll be able to pay for most of it with cash when I come back as my "down payment"

If anyone can enlighten me on this I would really appreciate it since I can't really find that much info on the subject

You'll need to put a deposit down when you place an order. The amount will vary depending on the dealership, but anywhere from $500-$1000 is probably the norm.

Totally worth it in the end........

as far as the payment stuff - most ask for a deposit, in the case of the 350, they may ask for a full DP. (whatever you are planning to part with for cash down) - its all dealer specific. ask your dealer/sales guy

Unless you have a large lump to put down, the whole Job thing is going to weigh heavily on your overall credit rating. again, talk to your dealership/sales person.

Their goal is to get you into the car to bring home the commission. may work in your favor if you can show you got the means to pay.

I called my current dealer that I just got my Super Duty from and said I wanted to order a GT 350 and said no deposit and he will call me ASAP for when order bank opens.

huh..that's interesting.. I wonder if it's because of location? I live in Southern California, so I assume they might require a deposit in case people flake out and decide against it?

Based on past experience ordering limited production Mustangs (GT500's)...

They most probably won't be orderable until the 2016 MY order banks open, whenever that will be. Probably late spring/early summer.

This is the important part: As they are limited production cars, they'll be parceled out to dealerships via allocation. In the past, dealerships had to pay a 2K annual fee to be a part of the SVT/Shelby program and be able to get allocations to order the cars. Participating dealerships gain allocations through "share of nation", i.e. their Mustang sales relative to national Mustang sales. So the more Mustangs they sell, the more allocations they are likely to get. You'll need to find a dealership with an allocation that is willing to order the car the way you want it at a price you're willing to pay. GLWT. Keep in mind that dealerships without an allocation will be happy to take your deposit and sit on it in the hope that they will get an allocation.

Once it is ordered, assuming the dealership had an allocation to place the order against, it should take roughly 2 months to get the car.

It helps to have a long term relationship with a dealership. Doors are opened and the way forward is smoothed.

My dealership only asks for deposits from people they don't know. If you've bought from them previously no deposit is required.

If you're dealing with an unfamiliar dealership find out if the deposit is refundable or not (only you know if you're comfortable with a non-refundable deposit) and get the order in writing. I've seen more than one guy ordering a GT500 get screwed in the end because someone else walked in and offered more money. Suddenly "his" car belonged to someone else. Money talks, and there's going to be some screaming over the initial allocations. If you wait until later in the MY you might be able to catch a dealership with a late allocation and get your order in with no hassle.

Yes, they should be able to tell you if they have an allocation.

Honestly, I think it'll be really hard to get one of the initial allocations at MSRP. IMHO, if you don't have a long standing relationship with a dealership you're going to have to work hard to get one without an ADM. Who knows though, you may get lucky. GL!

GT350's won't get to dealerships until about a year from now. Pricing has not been announced. Allocations have not been announced. Many dealers will not even get any GT350's. It's way too early to start shopping for one.
