You should be able to get a rebuild of the current engine, but if you are going to do this, do it once. you will spend around 5k on the aluminator, that would go a long way to getting a motor built for boost. the aluminator is not "built for boost". It is tough but not like a purpose built motor.
Forged rods/pistons, ARP bolts, should be good for most people's street builds

The Aluminator can be bought with lowered compression. While it is in short block I would have the rings out and gapped for boost. If you are going to run on E85 90%+ of the time, it will handle everything you could throw at it up until about 1200whp. I had a new stock block and crank. Did Manley H-tuff rods, and pistons, all ARP hardware and to have everything machined and balanced, rings gapped, etc. My shortblock was pushing $6k. The Aluminator is a simple and good package in place of all of that.

How much did the rebuild with RPG cost? I see they sell a build gen 3 block for 7300 that’s good for 1200hp.
I got mine at the height of the plandemic so prices probably changed. I got back a complete engine. I just had to drop it in the car.

My above price estimate was just the short block and the components I handed to them. I also had to have my original heads machined, new stock Ford valves and Pac springs installed. I ended up getting the exhaust side ported and polished while they had them. That was another $2700+.

What do the gen 1/2 guys do that have some miles on their engines?

Livernois advertises a rebuild with manley rods/pistons for like 6500 (they're local-ish so I could pickup/dropoff)

But with a lot of miles you'd be dumb to not refresh the heads while it's all apart, there's another 3000

I actually just found an engine local to me that may be a good idea. If I picked this up, pulled out the current engine and threw on a factory gen 3 block and sold the current engine I’d be in less money on a built long block than I would on just a built short block.

What fuel system are you running?
Is the car smoking at all? You may be able to get away with just rebuilding yours. If you can afford the aluminator, it would be the same are rebuilding yours.

I had a fuse for my secondary fuel pump go out on me on a pass and I melted number 8 cylinder.
I ended up just honing the stock block putting Mahle pistons and Manley rods in it ARP bolts and head studs. Boundary opg/cs. Switched over to a triple 465 pump system with dual regulators and a Fore controller.

Fore Level 2 with twin 274 pumps.
How much did the rebuild run you?

I need to edit that figure. That doesn't take into account the block price at the time was $1200 and the crank was $1200. So we're probably very near $8k the route I went, versus $5500 for the Aluminator.

How low was your fuel tank when you filled with E85? Im happy with my Aluminator. I didnt blow my stock motors piston rings, I actually busted some piston skirts and broke a cam cap and bent a cam, and lost like 8 rocker arm retaining clips , probably from over revving to like 8500 on accident a few times. Car was running fine and sounding fine with broken skirts and bent cam though, just had a cam sensor code which I thought was some wiring issue but my oil pan was .... chunky.

Do a scope of the oil pan if you can.
