Well I knew my luck would run out soon with this car. Around a month agoI had my oil changed at a reputable shop near my house with Rotella T6 oil. Last week I checked the level and it was over the max fill on the stick I was like eh whatever I'll use my extractor when I get a chance to suck some out.

Well today I moved my car out if my driveway to mow beside it and there's a pretty big oil spot right were my belly pan would stop at the back of the engine bay. It's 100% oil, and I always park the same way every day in this spot. I'm extremely paranoid that something has gone horribly wrong.... Or it could be the oil filter wasn't on right or the drain plug etc.

The shop told me to bring it in first thing in the morning, how worried should I be?

It's lower than it was its right at max fill now. I think it's coming from the filter or drain plug.

Visible oil dripping from the bottom of the filter...check that first, make sure it's tight.

If it is tight, it could be double gasketed. The filter gasket from the old filter sticks to the engine and the new filter is installed, leaving you with two gaskets that can leak. Typically those spray oil in a massive mess though.

How far is the shop from your house?

I can see the shop from my kitchen so not worried about that if I was I would make them tow it, this is why I normally do all my own maintenance

Can you reach the oil filter and see if it's on tight? These cars are too new to know if there's issues with the original gasket sticking. I replaced my oil myself at ~750 miles and it the gasket didn't stick but that's a very short change interval.

As follow up, if you can't reach the filter, as long as the oil level is okay I would just drive it over to them if it's that close.

You can see that its much higher than drain plug and somewhere around filter area (filer wet) .
I would make sure the filter is tight and make sure its not leaking to bad that you would run low before getting to shop .

Its hard to see good on those pics .

Sorry hard to get my arms under there with my phone, it really looks like its coming from the top of the filter. I hope it's something simple and not a major gasket or leak but I will find out tomorrow and keep you guys updated.

ahhh man, i cringed reading this title. especially because these cars are new. I had a few older cars with this wrong and that wrong, and I was so tired of fixing leaks and blah blah blah...

is there a chance they reused the oil filter and the gasket is leaking a bit? if you were above the fill mark the pressure may be pushing some extra oil out possibly?

Yeah, there looks to be a visible oil trail from the top of the filter down the side of the engine. Good bet the filter is not tight enough.

Looks like the filter, area. Don't think it could be the oil pan car is way too new for that. Might be double gasket like mentioned above or loose oil filter. I changed my filter a week ago, made sure to check for the gasket. In the near future I would say do it yourself. I'm not really good with cars but I sure can do some bolt ons. If I can do it, I bet you could as well. Just read some of the instructions on American Muscle and you should be good.

I've always done my own maintenance, I just have a gravel parking area to work on and there was a death in the family and I was like okay I'll run it somewhere not a big deal, well this happens haha. I stopped taking my wife's Abarth to the dealer, they are pretty close to useless around here unfortunately.

I'm very sorry to hear that, I understand.
Should not be anything major to fix, so I would not worry.

Well just got back from the shop and I can't believe what it was!

It was Ford, the oil pressure sending unit was loose enough for them to turn it by hand! They put some thread sealer on and cranked it down a few turns and no more leaks.
No idea how that would slip by Ford or why after almost 4000 miles it decided to start doing that but at least it's fixed.

Maybe keep an eye out for the same thing guys.
