I have a leak very similar to this. The car is presently at the dealer and they are claiming it is a valve cover gasket. My leak seems way too low to be a valve cover.

EDIT: Currently at 33k noticed it around 25k but was lazy about taking it in.

Yeah... I might seal up the timing cover bolt myself when I get it back. Now my car is sitting there for a week waiting for the wrong parts. At least the issue is documented if I need to go back for it.

I believe this is caused by a bolt that is used to block the crank locking tab used when putting the motor in TDC position when doing cams etc. There is a lock tab on the crank that is accessible inside the motor through this bolt hole that a tool is inserted into to lock the crank into position (Also used to take the crank shaft nut off when pulling the pulley off). I think the leak is common, I have it on mine. Will be going in this week for it.

Yeah I have to clean it all off with brake clean first and watch for it to return so I can pinpoint where it is actually coming from, the area looks like the OPs pic right now so it can be from anywhere. Even though I have my suspicion.

Is this leak more prevalent on the 2015's vs 2016/17??

So far no leak on mine w/ 22k accrued miles.
Mine is a 16, it was not there back in Jan/Feb when I pulled my turbo off, and I have 36K on mine now.

Clean the timing cover and try slightly tightening the bolts. Be careful not to overdo it though because it'll pull the threads out or crack the cover. It seems as though some of the covers weren't sealed good from the factory and tends to seep oil. It's not hard to fix but can be time consuming.
