I'm with you on that, I'd definitely rather just fix it myself for something so small. The problem with oil leaks is, it's so hard to tell where they are coming from. There were people that got it fixed but I never saw anyone specify exactly where the oil was coming from. Someone said they just took a screw out and put sealant on it and replaced it but never said what screw. As I mentioned, when I took mine in the tech couldn't tell where the oil was coming from. He cleaned it up and put dye in the oil so he could see it and the leak never came back so nothing to fix.

made an appointment to drop the car off this coming monday as i am done procrastinating and since nobody seems to know which bolt it is i figure let them figure it out. The service rep tried telling me $89 diagnostic fee and then $50 deductible. i said shouldn't this be covered under the powertrain warranty? since its a oil leak from the engine and all. she kept trying to act like oh she has to say that. It left me thinking like WTF i'm not paying. thats what the powertrain warranty is for.

Any idea which bolt needs to be tightened? If i knew which one i would just do it myself.

I just got my car back from Ford last night. I took it in because the AC stopped working but I pointed out the oil leak had come back. Maybe I wasn't clear in my earlier post, there was no fix. All they did was clean it so they could identify where the oil was coming from. Then it didn't leak again until recently. That was probably close to a year ago.

This time they pulled the timing cover off and replaced the seal. While they were R&R the AC compressor, they also found my oil line to the turbo was leaking so R&R that as well. Best of luck, hope they get it taken care of for you. I've heard others say all they did was re-torque all the bolts on the timing cover and the leak was gone.

Car is in storage for the winter. But when I get it out I'm going to check every one on the front cover I can get to. Hopefully one of them does the trick.

So I have 42,000 miles now ..I first started noticing this leak after 20 something..It does get worse ..I was thinking it was the timing cover ..glad you guys are talking about this and found out its just a few of the bolts that cause the leak.?

Noticed mine around that. Does suck to have to drop the car off for like forever to me. Gonna take it in though for that, second failed AC event and hopefully the door recall. Seems like these cars don't do well in weather above 70 degrees. Just sayin. But I love it so much...☺

Makes me nervous to talk about the leak starting at 20k miles. I'll hit that in the next few months.

Also, what door recall? When I close mine, it doesn't seem to give you that latch sound I'm accustomed to hearing. Hopefully my door really is closed.

Yes a lot of us for waiting on a recall for the door latchs but still waiting on the service department to call us and Ietc us know the parts are available.

I would not use lock tight,If it was me I would remove bolts one at a time, clean and put Permatex Liquid Teflon on the threads.

Easy fix ..finally got to it ...ther was actually some pressure behind it when is removed the stud bolt ..you will neet a 8mm deep socket ...just clean the treads really good and used so thread sealant. Hopefully does not come back

Is this leak more prevalent on the 2015's vs 2016/17??

So far no leak on mine w/ 22k accrued miles.
