Oil leak?

So I've been catching little whiffs of burning oil (car now at 17,000 miles). I popped the hood open tonight in the garage, and saw this:

Look to the upper left of the crankshaft pulley...looks like there's oil around the knob-looking casting on the engine block :(

Any ideas what is actually leaking down there? :shrug:
