Hello! So I just did my oil change on my preowned 2017 Mustang GT, I put on a new filter, tightened to spec, drain plug to spec, everything. Filled it up with 8 quarts of oil, started the motor for 10 seconds then shut it off and checked my oil level. Seemed good! After a little bit of driving, I got back home and could have sworn I heard ticking coming from my motor. And I know this sound is new so I’m worried, I checked everything for leaks when I did the oil change and an hour later after driving to the store and back, and nothing. It’s the lightest little tick but it’s noticable since I’ve never heard it before, what could it be?
(To answer prior questions, total miles rn is 34000, auto, I’ve done a few mods and gotten a lund tune)
Did you fill the new oil filter with oil prior to installing it?

OP, next time don't start the car. When you are all done, you need to cycle the oil pump before starting. In my 2017, I floor the throttle, then hit the start button. The engine will turn over for 5 ish seconds. Typically, the oil pressure gauge still reads zero. I do it a second time, and the oil pressure gauge comes to life.

Not saying that is what caused your ticking. But just make sure you prime the oil pump before starting the car after an oil change.

Think of an electric ignitor on a grill, you press it and it goes snap snap snap/click click click/tick tick tick

People say the coyote tick highly resembles this noise

Does yours tick like this on the video? If it does, I got it fixed by using this filter at each oil change. No more problem.

Really? I’ve never heard anyone suggest that the oil filter was related to the noise. Have you tried other filters since and the noise returned? I’ll have to try a Purolator Boss oil filter.

Good ol bbq tick. It goes away majority of the time and then comes back immediately after an oil change. Just learn to embrace it or throw a bottle of liqui moly every oil change

I do this too but it's extremely extra unless the car has sat for 6 months prior to the oil change lol

mine started after a 1,000 mile oil change. Then a young lady ( car enthusiast), Mustang lover, told me about it. She said that she heard it from the forum. Tried it and no tick from that point on. The horse has been running tick free. I got 37,000 miles now.

Dang, wish I could meet a mustang lady.
I've been using the KN HP2011 primarily for ease of removal and no ticking yet. *fingers crossed

Superduties have the same issue. It could be sort of combated by filling the oil filter before installing, but usually the tick came back. Mine did up until about 70k miles ago. It's sort of gone away, but I am at 240k now. Annoying, but no one ever figured out why it was doing it on any forum I followed. Some folks swore by certain filters, so by certain oils, some by additives.

Y'all all had me scared as shit to change my oil. Bought the car in Dec. 23 with 9100 on it. 2020 GT PP2. I ordered the Pennzoil Ultra-Premium and a FL500 and a bottle of Ceratec. Gage was showing 40% oil life I'm at 12K now. Did the oil change (some lessons learned there lol) and HA!!!! thank ya lil Baby Jesus no TICK. I did not put the ceratec in at this time, had it just in case.

Some of these new oil filters have a valve in them, A check valve I'm assuming. That may be the culprit ?

My tick showed itself around 10k miles and will ticket pretty good after a fresh oil change until it gets a couple hundreds miles on it. Then it goes away completely

this filter has been working from my 1st oil change at a 1000 miles and now I have 37000 miles and no ticking or typewriter tick. Mine was very bad and annoying as you can hear from the video I posted. I used to take it to the dealer with my own filter cause of warranty, now I do it myself. Remember, that has to be the exact filter as showed on the picture.
