Dumb question: I have a '19 GT base with the small screen (not touchscreen).. Should I still get the Sync update, would it change anything ?

If an update is made available to you, do it. It might not change anything you can see but it can change things that you can't.

Well just noticed today - the 3.4 (From 3.0) update cured my Waze / Google Maps speed issue. It always displayed 10mph faster than actual speed when using Carplay. Dead on now. That's nice.

Hmmm.. Not sure where you can tell that. Don't know why the whole screen didn't get captured. But I was on a Verizon network in Durham. Not WiFi.

I've let what I thought was the mystery downloads continue to download. Our resident Ford Sync guy here on the forum said they are actually the newest 1.20 map updates. It's downloaded and installed 5 or 6 parts so far, he said there are about 10 parts that will download before it is complete. I have the car on the charger, so whenever I walk out to the garage I put it in accessory mode and allow it to download. It looks like accessory mode runs about 20-25 min before turning off automatically. Since I typically only drive the car Friday-Sunday, it would take months to download from just pulling into the garage and connecting to wifi for those few minutes. I figured I would speed up the process by hooking up the charger and turning on the accessory mode throughout the day. Again, I'm surprised that Ford is allowing it to download for free, as I used my freebie when I first bought the car.

Well if you’re getting this on a steady basis then I’ll reassess my position. This is certainly enough to download a Sync update.

By the time it finishes 1.21 will be out. 😂🤣

The fact that it says internet speed test makes me think that. Hey, I could be wrong but when I turn off wifi on the phone and run the speed test on the okata speed test net site it shows Verizon. I just ran it and it shows 83.32 download.

When I turn wifi back on and run it on the same speed test site it shows Atlanta, GA just like in your pic and 223.26 download. I doubt your cell tower in N.C. would be showing Atlanta, GA.

It would take a while but would be doable. It looks like this update later includes the maps, so that would definitely take a while at those speeds. I'm at 225 Mbps download and still taking forever.

I used the Google speed test. It wasnt wifi. Scouts honour.
This was using home wifi. Server is Washington.

This test was wifi off. Service where I live is terrible. Server is Atlanta.

The pic at the bottom is using the data from your phone service. The one on the top looks like your phone is connecting to your home wifi. Locations of servers will vary from test to test. If you are going to use wifi, might as well let the car connect to your home wifi and take out the middle device. :)

Either way, the car is still going to shut off the power after a certain amount of time (20-30 min for mine), unless you have it running and have it set to not shut down the motor. (In settings.)

Bikeman was referring to data service from your phone provider probably not being reliable enough for big updates.

Mine is connecting to 225 Mbps downloads and taking forever to download the new maps. The sync download and install took about 20 min.

The car keeps trying to update. Well it finished another download last night. Looks like I got the latest Gracenotes. Big freaking whoop.

Ok, here’s mine. First is home Wi-Fi using my iPhone 12. Second is T-Mobile 5G using their server in NC. Third is T-Mobile 5G using the HTC (my internet provider) server. All tested from my living room couch. If I were to use OTA I would still be more confident using my home Wi-Fi instead of 5G. That said I’ll stick with using a USB drive.
