The maps are separate from the sync updates. The maps are actually from a third party company.
I'm wondering if it's a bogus update just to waste my one free one and if I should 2ait until later in the year. There doesn't appear to be a changelog.

Funny you said that. I used my complimentary one and dang it if another one wasn't available less than 3 months later. lol of course at the cost of $40. Way cheaper than any of my other cars but still had me wondering.

I think there is a time limit to use your complimentary but not sure how long that is. I couldn't spot any obvious differences in the upgrade that I paid for versus the previous upgrade.

Same here. SYNC says I'm 'up to date,' but the map S/W still says NA 1 17.
Much like others said, maps update is separate from SYNC update.

Correct.

Yeah I think it might be one update for the owner. I got my Bullitt in Feb 2020. It had a 1 17 on it. I got a free 1 19 update, but from seeing stuff on this forum previously, you then have to pay for subsequent.

If you paid $40 for the 'upgrade' there unfortunately were no changes from the one you previously downloaded, because it was the same free map upgrade and you were paying for the USB key.

The site isn't the greatest.
You only get one crack to download, then it disappears from the site and only the $40 USB option remains.
It doesn't tell you what version you are getting and you have to read the description on the $40 USB

If you have placed a previous order for a current Map Update via download, the USB you are attempting to order now contains the same Map version you previously purchased.
The option to purchase a pre-loaded USB after previously ordering a Map Update via download, is for customers who may have encountered an issue with the download process and now want to order the pre-loaded USB to perform the Map Update.

After the free upgrades you'll see the pricing difference.
A download map update is $109.00(CAN) and the USB is $149.00(CAN)

They were actually two different versions. One version was released in April last year and another in August of last year. My first download put me at map NA 1.17 and the second one at map NA1. 19.

You are correct, that you only get to blow your free wad once. :)

Actually, with the free update, I kept the email with the link and was able to access it later for another download. Arguably of the same version, which is obvious. But if you do lose the file or flash drive or whatever, you should be still able to get that same version again for free (whether the first time around was free or paid).

Richard is correct if you still have the original email, you can still access it and the license file, but it disappears off the site as an option when you put in your VIN/ESN.

Are you sure your first update was 1 17? It was probably 1 18 but still displayed 17 due to the bug in Sync 3.3 that was fixed in Sync 3.4

If your car was an early 19, it probably came with Maps 1 17.
My Bullitt came with 1 18 and I upgraded to 1 19, but it still shows 18 due to my order of operations in upgrading from Sync 3.3 to v3.4 since I did the Map update first. (first post in this thread mentions why).

I may be losing my mind, but IIRC someone posted somewhere about 18+ policy change having more than one free update. We'll find out soon enough when Maps 20 is available for DL/purchase.

They really should be free updates for anyone.
With phones having access via AA/CarePlay integration or all the the other external GPS companies offering it, there's a very small market for anyone opting for in-car GPS anymore.
With Sync4 and a wireless AA/CarPlay the last inconvenience of having to plug the phone in make that pool even smaller.

Just updated to 3.4.21020 via USB. Just curious, anyone know of a link that lists the changes made in this latest release?

I am positive the first update was a different update and verified through the files on the USB that I downloaded to.

I was part of that long thread discussing how to install when people were having problems and also discussing how Sync 3.4 fixed the bug that caused it to show the wrong number for the maps.

I probably won't bother updating the maps anymore; especially if I have to pay for the update. I typically only use Waze and Google maps for navigation.

I did agree with Richard in my comment :)

I finished the update yesterday and I literally cannot see a single change. Aside from the version number being higher now.

Yeah, it would be nice if they listed a change-log.

I just bought a 2017 F150 and used CYAN Labs tool to update old SYNC 3 version to 3.4.20282 and maps from NA 1 15 to 1 20. Shared it with a friend that also has 2017 F150 that had never been updated and he now has the latest SYNC software and maps.
