I felt the same as a lot of people that these cars were not that powerful and that ford was way over rating them. I think a lot of it is like the article said it is a long winded motor that doesn't want to make power till above 4k RPM and most people are like me and messed up and bought a base car with 3.31 gears which make it worse of wanting to get into the power range.

if you want it to feel faster (this is mostly to the guy who has that Baja) i think the scat pack auto would fit you perfectly. here's why

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/features/a25271/fool-your-butt-dyno-for-fun-and-profit/
I too love the feeling of thrust when I hit the gas. If I were to go back I would have spent more for the Scat pack over the GT. Though not as quick stock vs stock, my little 15' GTI feels more satisfying in the butt dyno department in each gear than my GT under 100mph.

The power delivery of the 5.0 seems peaky. Not much down low or up high but more in the middle range. I get the best results rolling into the throttle around 3500-4000 where it feels pretty strong up to around 5500ish where it starts falling off (pure sotp I mean). The 5.0 produces peak horsepower above 5500 but you don't feel horsepower.

I think (generally) those coming from turbo cars are going to be disappointed in the power delivery of the 5.0. Those coming from 05-10 GT's will find the 5.0 power (feel) a huge step up.

it's still pretty satisfying to do a 70-80mph highway pass in 6th gear without having doubts of making it in the opening.

i would have to drop to 4th in my FBO wrx to do that.

You did not walk a new GT with your 2012 unless the guy didnt know how to drive. How do I know this? I had a 2011 GT TP and now have a 2015 GT PP. The new car is faster...sorry.

Lol. No need to apologize. I wasn't the one that said that I walked a 2015 GT...

ive seen s197 vs s550 videos where the s197 walks the s550s slowly bone stock

You are exactly right. after 100 mph it's all over in my car, but on the street, not racing, how often is that? My Trap speed is no where close @95mph. And no atomic clutch drops, about 4k with some clutch slip to preserve the expensive bits. It does have a 4.44 final drive also which helps the off the line acceleration.

I really didn't mean to get this off track. In a thread questioning if there was enough horsepower I was really just stating that the mustang does not feel as quick as it actually is, and that is one of the few things I'm apprehensive about personally before spending my pennies on a car strictly for fun. I simply wished the 1/3 more HP Would be more appearant than it is based on seat of the pants feel.
I understand where you're coming from. I traded in a 2011 WRX for my 2015 GT. My WRX just "felt" as quick as it was whereas the Mustang does not. A lot of that is the refinement factor. The other major differences, of course, are the turbo and AWD system. It's just a completely different experience.

That being said, the Mustang would easily pull on the WRX, regardless of what you're "feeling".

There was one other thing that was surprising to me with the Mustang. Coming from all of these small displacement 4 cyl turbo's, you're used to getting the power up top. For some reason, I always associated muscle cars with having a lot more low end power. I was a bit surprised when I realized that the most of the Mustangs HP and TQ occur higher in the rev range. I think that may have something to do with it as well. If you really rev it up, this thing will go!

what numbers are you putting down with cold air and tune. recently had the all new AEM cold air installed and dynod. made 14whp and 4wtq with just intake. JLT with tuner will be installed in 2 weeks

Butt dynos are all different lol. Many of us are coming from different car performance backgrounds so its no surprise that there are differing views on the S550's acceleration feeling.

I guess you just gotta look at the 1/4 mile times and trap speeds. Its the great equalizer and puts to shame our trusted butt dyno! Power under the curve will be a more telling factor in explaining the thrust feeling at different speeds though.

Example: I tried launch control yesterday for the first time. I launched at 3k in track mode / traction control off, and it barely broke loose. A couple chirps from limited wheel hop / and almost no chirp into 2nd gear.

My 2000 V6 will chirp its tires when they're almost bald and the transmission hangs at about 5K rpm before shifting (auto). Feels fast. Wanna trade cars?

Given that the 13-14 made 420hp, you are going to have a hard time comparing dynos with a 15 and saying they are (or are not) putting the same amount down. 15bhp difference is probably like a 12ish whp difference.

We have seen stock '15s putting dynoing from 340-385whp (dynojet) range, so there you go, that 12whp diff. is easily eaten up in the dyno variability. Even the 11-12s could fall within this variability.
Of course you're right about the only way to know for sure, but the real point was that our stock 15's are not quicker 0-60, nor in the 1/4 than a stock 11-14. In fact, according to most magazine tests, the 11-14 are slightly quicker. Not a huge difference, but still surprising considering there is as much as a 23hp advantage for the 15 (compared to 11/12: 412hp vs 435). At least it's surprising until you take the extra weight and IRS into account.

That said, I'm happy with my S550. I'd trade a few tenths of a sec in a straight line for IRS and the more complete performance package any day.

Think it has to do with the smoothness of the s550 if that makes sense. Im coming from a 360whp/wtq evo X. And that things felt faster, maybe due to the awd and the boost. But ive done a few pulls with my buddies who drive evo x, practically same mods, different brands, and I pull on them

Yes, gradual power instead of all of it being poured on all at once like a turbo car.

Agreed. Needs a SC.

I believe this also. There is no drama. You pass someone and the cars "feels" slow but you look down and your doing 110. On aside note. Do you happen to have the dyno graph with just the cold air intake vs stock? We're having a debate on another mustang forum about if a CAI actually ads any performance or not!
