Got it squared away today. I did the Sync update via usb (30 minutes) and then gave the map update via usb another go and it took about 45 minutes. I have to tell you, I don't see a difference!

As far as any Sync updates you will not see anything at this point. Most likely just some background adjustments. Maps are a little easier to spot depending on road growth in areas where you travel. Just keep in mind that maps are usually a year behind. That's why I use Waze/Google in addition to Sync maps.

So the free maps update was still available to you? Wonder why I can't get it.
There was a free one available to me a month or so ago that I stupidly didn't download as I didn't have the time to fuss with it then. Today, I went to get it and now it's $109 for a one-shot or $199 for a 5-year subscription. Bastards.

I was hoping the reason the free map update wasn't available was because my SYNC wasn't up to date. I've tried twice to get my SYNC to update via USB and can't get it to work. The first time I didn't format the thumb drive. The second time, I formatted it and I saw a message that said it was initializing which I didn't see before, but I'm not getting the log file showing it's been updated.

Any ideas?

Start by checking your build #. The latest is 22200. Sometimes you do not get the XML log file.

By build # are you referring to my VIN? If I don't get a log file, I can't report it to Ford. Also, I never saw any messages after the initializing message.

In Sync3 go to General, about Sync. This is where you will see your version # and build #. The latest is 22200. If your is not try downloading from your USB again.

When you first started you should have gotten a header stating that an update was loading. A short time later you will get a screen telling to you restart your car (or something like that, I never remember). Do nothing, the update will continue on its own. You will then get the final screen telling you update complete, remove your USB. At this point I shut off my car, open the door for 30 seconds and then start her up again.

Her is an older about Sync screen but yours will look the same.

Her's a copy of that first screen after you start your car and insert the usb.

I'm searching for the info but I believe we 2019 owners were to get 5 years of free maps. If you saw a free update then you should get one. Call Ford.

Thanks. My build is 22200. I definitely didn't get the "Updating System Software" note. The Ford website says my SYNC isn't up to date when I put in my VIN. I tried contacting Ford and they created a case number, but nothing has happened since.

So long as you have 22200 you are up to date. Did you check your USB files to make sure that you did not get the .XML file?

Here are my 22200 files.

Yes. I checked. It's not there. If I'm up to date, why would the website say I have an update available?

Because it doesn't know due to the fact you could not report back to them. No big deal Ford will take care of it for you.

Hope so. Thanks for the help. I might try it one more time. I had my door open for the first few minutes. Maybe that was a problem.

For such cases, when an XML file isn't generated during the update, Ford provides a separate package that does just that. I think they only offer it in Europe, I don't know why, but it should work in US vehicles as well.
Unzip it on the USB thumb drive and use it just like a regular update package.

I thought the 2019s got 5 years free as well, but for the life of me, I've been unable to find the reference.

We do get 5 years of the Sirius travel apps, for the minimum use they are.
