I assume you are asking what is the biggest tire for the rear that fits the 9.5 wheel. Tire rack says a 285/35r19 will fit. Fit and be the best application may mean two different things though. I have to ask if you were wanting to run a larger tire in the rear, why not buy a wider wheel for the rear? (It appears you don't plan to rotate tires based on wanting larger in the rear.) A 19x10, 19x10.5 19x11, etc would fit great and allow for up to 325 in the rear depending on the tire.

As big as the tire shop is willing to stick on there. A 9.5 might be good for most 255/265's. I generally don't get tires that vary more than a half inch from rim size.

What are you looking to do??? It would change what I suggest.

On a 9.5" wide wheel I wouldn't go beyond a 275 width. Yes a 285 fits but it wont be optimal. I would run a 275/35/19 all around.

i had 285s on my 9.5 and they bulged a bit. 275 looks much better imo

^^this is a great article.
I found it quite informative. Billy Johnson has a expert background with a long resume of track racing and mustang knowledge.

Yeah his knowledge is quite extensive. He used to post here every now and then but havenā€™t seen him post anything in quite some time. One of the threads I saw him in somebody was getting into a pissing match with him about wheel and tire fitment. Dude wouldnā€™t back down even though Billy is clearly the expert in that room. Donā€™t think heā€™s been back since.

OP, donā€™t go any wider than 275 on a 9.5ā€ wide wheel. As others mentioned, the 285 will bulge a bit and you start to sacrifice feel as a result. 11ā€ wide is very common for the rears with 305 or 315 being the optimal tire (can also run 325 but I feel those are better for a 12ā€ wide wheel personally).

My mechanic had ordered 305/35/19 for the rears and 265/35/19 for the front so Iā€™m curious how that is going to look I didnā€™t do wider wheels in the back because I was on a budget and this was the best pair I found

I agree. I can't see how the mechanic would recommend a 305 on those.....that 22 offsets may be an issue also. I am not sure those wheels in the pics are made for the Mustang. As they say, pay once and cry once. Save a little longer and get what you really like.
