Yikes! I guess if I'm going to get the update, I'd better do it while it is $40.

Yup, that's what it has been for 16/17's. 18/20's get at least one free via download.

Hi Ed. You might want to read post #48. To answer your question, it could take awhile. Try again tonight and again tomorrow morning.

There is a massive thread on 3.4. It is available as an unofficial update. It is not from Ford. Try it at your own risk.

Here's one of them. Update is for 3.3 as well as 3.0

Thank you, Sir. I think I'll wait for the version from Ford. Thanks again!

I just went to check for an update. I get a ESN is invalid message.
I went through hell with the last Sync 3 update so this doesn't surprise me one bit. lol

Are you sure you used your 8 digit Sync ESN #?
Man that sucks. Give them a call. Many other have had this exact same issue. By the way I'm still being told I already have 1.19. Maybe later.
It took me almost 3 months to get the last sync update. For some reason a single file kept giving me an error message when trying to transfer it to an sd card. Ford told me it was a known problem and they had no idea when it would be fixed. Another words....we dont care. I just kept trying and trying randomly. Finally after 3 months I tried and it worked. Wonder how long it will take me to get the map updates.
I know many run into the same issue as you. Told they already have a version that they don't.

Update: Called about my issue. They said to go to my dealership they should have the answers. Not surprised with the response. I know 5 year olds that have more knowledge.

No rush for me to have an update.
I wonder if I go to the dealer for an oil change if they do the system updates....

I have a 19 so not sure how to take advantage of the FREE download... my car sits in the garage and I can connect to WIFI but doesn’t the car shut off at some point? Surely not going to leave it running or in accessory for a hour or 2.

and yeah I’m not buying a USB. I’ll use my phone and if I do buy a USB it might be 5 years from now when it’s actually worth it.

You don't want to do it over wifi, that would take hours.
Log into the Ford Owner's site and then go to support and then Sync 3 and then Navigation. It will have you enter your VIN and ESN number. Once you do that, it will show you if you have a complimentary free download update. You would then want to download to your computer and put on a USB to transfer it to the car. The process will take about 45 minutes in the car to complete. I just drove mine around while it updated from the USB.

No rush for me to have an update.

My 2016 update was availab!e. Entered Vin and Esn.
$109 for the download, and $149 for the USB.

I never use onboard nav, always use Waze. Ordered the USB anyway.

Map updates, due to their size cannot be done via wi-fi. Check to see what version you currently have. Probably 1.17. If you didn’t update to 1.18 than 1.19 “should” be free. Good luck!

I'm considering going the Cyanlabs route. That way I can get both Sync3.4 and new maps. Seems like a pretty straight forward process.
Read all the threads. Most folks have not had any serious issues. But remember you are still under warranty. If anything goes wrong with your Sync system you will be shit out of luck.

Well this SUX!
Hey Guapin, as previously mentioned, that's just a 'recommendation'. I had to look hard for the free download when I did it for my 2018 F-150. Stupid Ford obviously wants to charge us 40 bucks. It was a PITA, but even though it was a couple of years back, hope to avoid that fiasco. I already have the USB, so I can do it without any extra costs. Need to see if it actually shows 'free'; it might not, at which point I'd leave it alone. The other day checked for Sync updates, and apparently mine is up to date, so only the map update would be needed. I did it with the ignition on and a charger, and was successful, but was scared when the battery saver feature cut off the ignition at 45 minutes, only 3 short of finishing. Fortunately, I was there, and immediately turned ignition back on, and it finished without any issues. This time would probably just drive it. Hope you can hear the stereo, but I think the entire Sync system is is not operational when updating. We'll see :D.
