You can go to Cyanlabs.com and down load the 2020 maps for free.

Updated my 17 to Sync 3.4.21020 and the 2020 maps a couple of weeks ago.

The 2020 maps fixed most of the speed limit errors that were in the 2019 maps but did not update all the hiway exit number changes that have been going on over the past year in Massachusetts.
Maps version 2.20

I did the Cyanlab update the other day. Works great.
I looked at that but it sounds kind of scary... how long did it take and was there any hiccups using it? Really don’t want to brick my head unit.

Or a BMW. On the one my wife had it was $400 and we had to leave it with the dealer for the day so they could update! There was no way to do it yourself.

German efficiency
That's strange. Some of my colleagues have BMWs, and they get free map updates over the internet.
I'm not sure if that applies to all vehicles, though, or just to certain models and/or trim levels.

It took about an hour to setup the USB for it.

Then another 40 minutes in the car for the update. I did let the car run the whole time so the battery saver would not kick in or ACC turn off.

Here is the video I used to follow.

It could be model specific, model year change, or even dealer specific. The 2014 328iXdrive it wasn't included I know. And there was no way to do it myself, had to go to the dealer. With our 2014 Lincoln it was a simple swap of a chip in the console.

I went to the hassle of updating the maps....and guess what, I tend to always use Waze or Goggle Maps.

Is this just the maps or a complete overhaul?

Site seems a little confusing...
I downloaded an update to Sync as well as the new 2020 maps and did the both at once. The sync update did not noticeably change the way Sync looks or works, maybe a little faster. Not sure if it is required for the 2020 maps or not. But if you are using the Cyanlabs.com Sync Updater software to down load and configure a USB memory stick it will put the correct files on the USB.

Exactly, the OEM nav is trash compared to anything run through CarPlay or Android Auto. Don't know why you'd bother or even worse pay for updates.

I ordered the USB thumb drive for my wife's Lincoln. Ran it yesterday and .... didn't update the maps, still shows 1/2019 as map. So ran it again, got the message that all was updated.

Map still shows 1/2019, it doesn't have the updates for the roads around me. And now the navigation won't respond to voice commands. The dealer is picking it up (one of the advantages of Lincoln) to take it in to service to fix it and update the maps correctly.

I tried again today and the message comes up saying that it already updated.

I wasn’t aware that 1.20 was officially released, only on Cyanlabs. Did you get a notification from Ford?

Looking back a Maps 1 19, it was released around July 2020, so I'd expect a similar timeline for an official release. (give or take)

JimC, try a master reset of the headunit. That worked for me after my update last year.
