According to the article, the 3.5 liter Ecoboost V6 could appear in limited production supercars. That to me means the engine is too expensive for a GT500. The final cost to a buyer of a GT500 with the 3.5 liter would probably be over 100000 dollars.

An F150 doesn't cost 100k, the only things that engine needs to hit over 400 whp is a tune.

Upgraded turbos puts you over 600hp on the stock engine.

The reason this engine will probably not make it has nothing to do with cost, it is simply because purists have trouble accepting that an engine without 8 holes in the block is powering a Mustang. It is also why any V6 Ecoboost will not find it's way into the Mustang until the V8 goes TT.

I would be very surprised if they do that. The FPC is more for high revving NA engines. No reason for a FPC when you have twin turbos. A CPC with TT will make plenty enough power, though.

I actually think we will see the new Focus Turbo Four in the Ecoboost Mustang before the GT 500 is produced. That Focus Four would be a real hoot in a Mustang.

You know don't you that the HP bump is only 40, right? I don't imagine that could be a game changer for a 3600 lb car...just sayin

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a short run '17s come to tell you the truth. Almost like the '15 350...

It was confirmed a while back that the '17 model year will be short. Can't remember the exact dates but I think it's something like an 8 or 9 month production run. This means the '18 model year will be pretty long and because of that, has room for a GT500 which I'm 99% convinced is coming for MY2018. Some on here are acting like Ford is the current king of high horsepower when in fact they're behind. Hellcat has been out for 2 years and the 640hp ZL1 is gonna be arriving on dealer lots late this fall. Ford is playing catch-up if you ask me and that's why I think they won't wanna wait longer than MY2018.

My guess for the timeline is based on when they've launched stuff in the past. The 2013 refresh was launched November 2011 at the LA Auto Show. If they do the same thing we'll have the 2018 refresh official unveil just 6 months from now in LA. GT500 will be a big deal and launch in Detroit in January. Bullitt maybe in New York April 2017. I think they can do both since the Bullitt wouldn't be that big of a deal to most and will only have very minor improvements. Also at that point the refresh will already be 6 months old. Mach 1 for 2019 and 2020 and then they've hit all the anniversaries and we're done with the S550.

Ford never seems to be in a rush to introduce serious or substantial hardware upgrades.

We have not seen spy shots or development mules of anything that is radical enough in my mind to indicate a GT 500 is happening for model year 2018.

I really hope I'm wrong but, I think we will see a Mach 1 and/or Bullitt before a GT 500.

I also heard that it would be awd. My buddy recently leased a new car from a new Ford dealership that just opened up in my area and the owner told him the new gt500 would be awd. Granted, this was last year when he told him that and that it would be a 2016 MY lol so take that with a grain of salt

At one time I used to want the EB V6 in the Mustang. Now I don't. I'm not sure what changed. I think it's after owning a GT350 and realizing how much better I like a car when it makes beautiful noises. Or possibly reading and watching all the reviews where they complain about certain cars being soulless.

I really hope during my lifetime I will always be able to drive an ICE and the evil electrics don't completely take over. Even the sound of a 6 is superior to silence.

A grain of salt indeed. A lot times, these guys have no more access to information than we do. I'm quite certain that Mustang will remain RWD, even when S650 is launched.

That said, I could see an argument that it could at that point in time conceivably share its platform with a Lincoln sedan or crossover that would have AWD as an option. In which case, the parts would be available to build an AWD Mustang if you wanted...

Keep in mind.... Ford kept the Ford GT so well hidden for over a year that even most of the people that worked AT Ford didn't even know about it... The company I work for manufactures the glass for the Ford GT and I didn't even hear about it.
Seems Ford is doing a good jbs of keeping the wraps on and all of us guessing

But the GT is Ford's reborn halo car, the current pinnacle of race track engineering and technology that was born and bred for international competition.
Ford truly wanted to make a stunning debut with the new car and they did so with great success.

I don't think Ford would go to such lengths with a GT 500.
I don't think it will available for the overseas markets.
We want to see this bruiser go through it's shakedown tests on the streets of the USA where it belongs.

People are already complaining about the new EcoBoost Raptor and the way it sounds and because it has a V6.

Ford is behind as far as power and torque goes. The new ZL1 is going to be a fast car and have more than the "advertised" 640 HP and 640 lbs. of TQ. That car is going to hurt a lot of feelings, I'm calling it now. Whether you like GM or not, it's going to happen.
