Our photographers have caught new photos and video footage of the upcoming 2019 GT500 Mustang out testing near Dearborn.

The video gives us our clearest audio yet of the supercharged 5.2-liter cross plane crank engine being tested for the 2019 GT500. This is an early (M1-build) prototype with underbody and powertrain changes only. With the exception of the front end (which affects cooling), the M-1 builds do not wear representative bodies that would incorporate some of the exterior changes of the 2018+ Mustang mid-cycle refresh.

Interestingly, this prototype also shows what appears to be a roll cage visible through the rear quarter window.

We showed this to some of our inside sources and they tell us the 2019 GT500 will be an absolute beast, potentially making over 800 horsepower and featuring a dual clutch transmission derived from the Ford GT's 7-speed DCT. A manual transmission was also being tested but it is still unclear whether the option will make it to production.

We're told to expect 20-inch wheels and tires (315 wide at the rear) with massive true 2-piece brake rotors. It will also have composite springs and "other lightweight chassis components."

I'm really stoked to hear any new Mustang news, the 2018 refresh, too me, wasn't all that big a deal--like I told my wife "nothing that makes me want to trade my 15 in on one". Back in the 2000's we were getting special editions all the time--Bullitts, Mach 1's, Cobras. Heck check the Challengers build and price and marvel at all the different models.

I was thinking the same thing. Also I didn't hear any SC, not saying it's not but it wasn't noticeable to me.

God I hope the GT500 is a global project with RHD examples. Would be well up for one of these with a 7-speed style DCT transmission or even 10-speed auto. :)

A mule was at a training event for Ford certifications at the proving grounds recently according to a higher up at my dealer (he's an enthusiast and actually knows something about cars) and he said there's definitely a supercharger in THAT particular one but he couldn't speculate on what that really means. But I agree, I can't hear anything that would make me believe there was a blower on that car by sound alone.

    Cool video! Thanks for sharing.

Hard to tell from the video, but I'm not sure about that rumored engine...it sounds just like a GT350 and it's FPC.

The GT500 will be either a parallel or BiTurbo system, could use a supercharger, and displace anywhere from 4.8l to 5.8l. It will still be called the Voodoo and Humingbird and will make anywhere from 662 to 808 horsepower. It could also use the FPC but could not also use it too. All of this from my sources, just wait and see.

Come on man...we all love da pill. You know it's B.S. though.
I have a good feeling there is more than one example they are testing. Nothing is concrete yet.

Yep, sounds like a CPC. Also maybe sounds a tad bigger than 5.2 to me.

Brace yourself, this is going to be a grand slam...i have a very good feeling about this one
