This is a great time to be alive if your into cars. Kudos to GM and Ford. I'm waiting for official numbers. I do believe they are cooking something to release, as why would they be going thru all this effort unless it's tied to something. The next step will be what is GM response

They can't just sit back and let all the hype they put into the GTD be egg on their faces. If we are being totally unbiased (impossible, but we try, eh?) then the ZR1 straight up caught the GTD with its pants down and smacked that booty. It's embarrassing. Some have cancelled forthcoming GTD orders. It's entirely possible (and responsible) that Ford has upgraded the GTD to be more competitive and that would include more 'Ring testing. Unfortunately, it does look like Ford had to use extreme tire specs to get the new unofficial time recently. So they may have had to resort to offering the 2026-27 GTD with a new kind of track package in order to market it.

It's amazing what we are seeing unfold for sure. I just really want to see Ford at the top. Not GM. And if it's a twin turbo V8 Mustang or GT filling that slot, then all the better.

Yes I'm for squezzing everything out to get the win. Seems weird the GM crowd complaining about this as I remember then saying 'Cam intake and heads' weres bolt ons back in the day

I'm just saying, the cars aren't stock. So comparing the times to stock Corvette times are pointless. If they do it with a production car (assuming they release a new model), then we can talk.

Nurburging times are stupid, anyway. They're for the Grand Turismo and keyboard racer crowd. It's funny how the ZR1 is 1.5 or 2 seconds faster at the ~ 7 minute lap of the Nurburging but it's 3 seconds faster around tracks when independently tested here that are only 1:30 laps (Sonoma, VIR)

And I would like to hear what all happened. Some people are saying it's a 1000hp Whipple car. Who knows.
They are from a Ford factory, so by definition they are "stock".

Some of the interesting bits I found different on the EVO vs the Gen 1. Canards are bigger, and there is two more. The fender vents are bigger. End plates on the wing are contoured on the EVO. It's really hard to tell, but almost looks like the hood vents are more sculpted, or possibly bigger. It has (I'm pretty sure) CF wheels, and a new brake package. Obviously the blower is something different, but no idea what. It's got a roll bar fitted and full on track seat.

Just some things that stuck out to me.

I like to disassemble things.
How do you get that close to the car while at the Ring, camera/phone in hand, car sitting there and waiting to get through the fence and onto the track, and not zoom into the tires closer so we can see what they are!! Ugh, frustrating AF.

I paused the video and took a screenshot. Zoomed in and it appears they scrubbed the walls of the tires of any indication of tire brand, size, etc. I saw a faint marking of a checkered flag, indicating to me it’s a Michelin tire of some kind. Cup2R, maybe a slick like someone else mentioned?

So GM still holds the stock record.
GM also built the ZR1 and ZR1X in-house, whereas the GTD is a Multimatic vehicle.

What’s the “move” for GM again?

This whole thread is built on speculation. It seems ridiculous to me to claim they beat GM with a completely unverified time, but here we are.

Cup2r's are a solid shoulder with a few faint grooves, which are impossible to see in a video, especially if it's not shot in 60 fps.

Wonder if we have to now claim the GT40 wasn't a Ford either since it was refined, and developed by Shelby, with the backing of Ford when Ford couldn't get it done.

Good to know. My 3 pic shows groves , and when you play it on YT in slow motion you can see the groves coming around.

Hmmm the grove I see are angled slightly across the tyre and not any main groves around the tyre like Cup2r’s ? Maybe a custom tyre or Hoosier track slick
