What is the best FBO setup for 2015-17 s550 you guys have seen? Or what is your setup or the best FBO set up in your opinion? I am looking to go FBO but unsure what parts/mods to get. I need some inspiration.

FBO is pretty cookie cutter for these cars. Brand choice is what will set things apart.

Intake
Intake manifold
Full exhaust (including headers)
Tune (add fuel injectors for E85 if you swap intake manifolds)
Oil pump gears (OPG) as a safety measure IF you plan to rev the engine past 7500 RPM (generally speaking)

To make the most of it, E85 will allow for a solid power bump over FBO and tuned on 93 octane.

For the 15-17 GEN II Coyote most people opt for the 2018 intake manifold (ported or not ported). The GT350 intake comes in the FRPP Performance Package and is a GREAT intake as well, but considerably more expensive (<$500 for a 2018 intake and usually >$900 for GT350 - the gains are very similar for both). Then you have the Cobra Jet which will make the most peak power and hold it highest in the RPM. This will hold power to 8k RPM +. Again, around $1,000.

For exhaust, when selecting headers you will need to decide on keeping the catalytic converters for the mid pipes or not. High flow cats are very efficient and won’t really cause you to lose much, if any, power on a bolt on car.

When deciding on your tune, decide if you’re willing to commit to E85 or if 93 is a better fuel based on availability, better gas mileage. Tuners also offer flex tunes where you can fill up with either and the PCM will adjust. With tuning and intake manifold swaps, you will need to decide if you’re going to lock out the IMRC’s (intake manifold rubber controls) or not. This is often a tuner preference.

There are many tuners that cater to the Coyote engine. LUND, Palm Beach Dyno, AED, Steeda, Unleashed. There are others as well, but these are the main ones. Avoid “cookie cutter” tunes and work with a reputable tuner that will have you datalog and send back revised tunes (if needed) based on the logged data.

Most people suggest using the stock throttle body as tuning is hit or miss when changing them.

A FBO GEN II should put down anywhere from 420-450rwhp depending on intake and fuel selection.

I don't have much to add as your post was already chuck full of good info, but I wanted to mention that if you wanted to go the GT350 intake manifold route it's much cheaper than you mention. Vendors and Ford Performance are asking $1000+ for an OEM intake manifold when you can get one for ~$500 from any Ford dealer. For that price it's a close deal compared to the 18 manifold and if revving past 7500rpm it will show a good deal of performance gain. To 7500 it's pretty even with the 18, but after that the 18 falls off while the GT350 keeps going.

but considerably more expensive (<$500 for a 2018 intake and usually >$900 for GT350 - the gains are very similar for both)

I've got a JLT intake, MBRP resonator delete and muffler delete, E85 tune on my 2016 GT. Next mods include IM and LTH. But it is already making 451RWHP and 483RWTQ on a Dynojet and 420RWHP and 442RWTQ on a Mustang Dyno.

if revving past 7500rpm
Hello Sir, problem there is the 15-17 coyote cams start going downhill at 7300. So 7500 would be a good shift point if using the 18/GT350/BOSS/CJ intake manifolds. All these IM's will have very similar peaks. The good thing about the GT350 intake is that you can retain the CMCV and have a more linear torque curve ie: not so peaky. OF those mentioned, my choise would be #1 the 18, #2 GT350. Only because I have a manual. If I had an automatic, I'd reverse that choice. Cheers.

Great point. I didn’t consider that.

Anybody actually running the CJ intake?

Since we know it's still the king on top, I'm curious if the slight loss of bottom end is completely noticeable on the street. I just haven't seen many writeups here on this setup.

Cold air intake like JLT or PMAS, long tube headers, 18 manifold + 47lb injectors with either a tune from PBD or LUND. Shoot me a DM, PBD has a discount going on.

Bolt Ons to a 17 car:

18 Mani
1 7/8ths Headers
3" Exhaust
47lb injectors
E85 Tune from Lund

I've got a great power curve. Just shy of 450hp at the rear wheels.

Happy with the performance of the car on the track.

For a 17 this is pretty spot on. Optional CJ instead of 18 mani.

Is there any place that makes a kit for the CJ to work with the automatics?

Yeah. Couple of the guys over here have gone CJ. Just means either replacing the hood or dropping the engine.

And I'm really not fussed to to do either! I only went 18 mani as I had an opportunity to get the 18 Mani fitted at very little cost!

Next investment is likely to be turbo's or pro-charge.
