What do you guys think is the actual root cause of this? I have the same chip in the same exact spot in the rear, and one also in the front bumper/fender corner... but the other corners are fine.

Is it too snug or not snug enough to each other that is causing the chip?

I feel like touch up painting the spot will just get chipped off again soon after...
It’s caused by road debris being flung up at the side of the body and edges of fenders… there’s no way to really stop it. It isn’t anything to do with the body panels proximity to each other.

Take your hand and feel the entire inner edge of all of your fenders for similar paint chips….

Really? It's hard to believe road debris would cause the exact same chip on 3 corners of my car at the same exact spot where the fender meets bumper. There are no other chips or paint missing except that spot. The spot where the paint is missing is actually harder to get to if I'm a piece of debris or small rocks since its hugging the bumper. One corner in rear and 2 corners in the front on my car. That area also is very snug on all the corners where I found the missing paint.

My PP2 has the same thing. It's super minor right now but it's all to blame on poor panel fitment from Ford.
Did you ever address this? or just leave it as is.
I noticed I have the same paint chip spot on 3 of the corners on my car where the fender meets bumper. Wondering if it's not worth correcting since bumpers will have to be removed to touch up the spot and if it just rubs again then the chip will just come back.

Ford's paint can have issues. This is the roof of my 2017 F150 with 31,000 miles on it. Thankfully Ford repainted it and covered 95% of the cost. I'm happy about that, but disappointed that it happened.

Just color the spot with factory touch up. Don't try to build it up. I use an extremely small artist brush.

Color the spot so it keeps the issue from spreading.

In my opinion it's a drip that occurs on the corner during the painting process. That nib gets knocked off when the 2 parts are assembled. Mine had a small one. But not enough to cause an issue.

This actually sounds like the most reasonable and logical cause of this
I'll go over it with my Dr. Colorchip paint

Hey guys. I'm glad I found this thread. I have a 2 month old, 1K mile GT and after washing it earlier, I noticed the passenger side front fender has a significant paint chip. Experienced it before on my Evo X due to a bubble that dried up probably when it was getting baked from production. I took a picture of it along with the driver side fender and sure enough, there's a bubble on the driver side.just hasn't popped yet. Sad that for a $40K+ vehicle to have such happening to it. Just thought I'd share. Nice to have a piece of mind that I'm not alone experiencing this. 🙂

here's the results from Dr Color Chip on my hood. I had to repair before I coated the car.
First pic shows small white chip. It took over three applications to smooth out but I can't see it now unless I'm right on top of it.

I think I will use paint pen to try and fix it a bit.
the factory ford paint pens are actually really REALLY good. you can definitely fix that easily if you're patient.

i was able to get out a couple knicks all the way to the primer on my passenger fender. one was about 5mm, the other 2mm long. doesn't sound like much but it was an eyesore.
